Reacher Season 3 Book Finalized, A Solo Adventure for Alan Ritchson’s Character

Summary

  • Lee Child confirms that the makers have finalized the book for Reacher season 3.
  • Reacher season 3 will be based on a solo Jack Reacher adventure. Two books that fit the bill are Worth Dying For and Die Trying.

Lee Child, the author of the Reacher book series, has confirmed that the book for Reacher season 3 has been finalized. It will be a solo story for Jack Reacher.

Reacher season 1 was based on Child’s first novel in the series, Killing Floor, while season 2 adapted Bad Luck and Trouble, the eleventh book. Over 8 episodes, the series gave us more insight into Reacher’s history and relationships.

Season 2 concluded with Reacher leaving his team and going after Shane Langston to take revenge.

While speaking to The Messenger, Lee Child mentioned that Reacher season 3 will see Jack Reacher dealing with things on his own. Moreover, the executive producer hinted at a good opening scene, which would set the theme for the next episodes.

Here’s the quote:

We’ve picked it up, it’s chosen. It’s a good choice, I gotta say. I think we’ve been very creative about how we’ve sequenced the type of story.

We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season. And so it was a question of which story would work best for that, and which one would have a great opening scene and all of that, and we found one that we loved.

The Reacher series has 28 novels now, while a 29th book is on the cards. Out of these novels, Worth Dying For sees Jack Reacher on his own and fits the criteria for season 3.

The novel is widely considered one of the best in the series. It begins with Jack coming to a Nebraskan town late at night. He hears a drunk doctor refusing to help a domestic abuse victim inside a motel bar.

The story sees Jack Reacher standing up for a victim of domestic violence. We’ve had scenes in previous seasons where Reacher stood up for such victims as well.

Another book that season 3 may have taken up is Die Trying, a favorite of Alan Ritchson. The story features Jack Reacher being kidnapped in Chicago with another significant woman.

Season 3, focusing more on Jack Reacher’s solo adventures, will be a sharp departure from its previous seasons. However, it can help the series be more faithful to its source material and explore the protagonist’s character better.
