However, the Blitz Bawazule directorial has taken a different approach to the story. The 2023 film is a musical, coming-of-age drama, while Spielberg’s version is considered truer to the source material.
Steven Spielberg and Quincy Jones, who produced the 1985 film, also serve as producers in the 2023 adaptation. Oprah Winfrey also serves as a producer of the film. Winfrey played the role of Sofia in Spielberg’s version.
What is ‘The Color Purple’ based on?
