Marvel Calls Shang-Chi A ‘New Avenger’ In A TV Spot For The Film

It is official! Marvel has called Shang-Chi a ‘New Avenger.’

Marvel’s latest film and its first Asian superhero entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe comes with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Marvel published a TV spot for Shang-Chi, titled ‘Tribute,’ and shows glimpses of Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, followed by Shang-Chi himself. The clip’s title card calls him ‘Marvel’s New Avenger.’

Another new clip was released just a day before the film’s release, which showed a Black Widow fighting an Extremis in tiny cages under the main cage where The Abomination is fighting Wong.

This indicates that Shang-Chi’s existence and hence him being an Avenger in the main timeline isn’t up for debate.

Although Shang-Chi is a standalone film, Marvel always finds intricate ways and easter eggs to weave in all its projects into its single universe (which will be confusing considering the multiverse being unleased and all that).

With this film, Shang-Chi is also the first titular superhero to be introduced in Phase 4. The previous projects so far have been stories of the characters we already knew in the post-Endgame era.

Everything indicates at Shang-Chi being among the new generation of Avengers, as all the superheroes shown in the TV Spot have passed on their legacies in some way or the other to the younger generation.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier gave us a new Captain America, Black Widow passed on the torch to Yelena Belova, Iron Heart is the next-gen Tony Stark, and Jane is to be Lady Thor. It’s a safe bet that there’s a place for Shang-Chi on the team.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is out now exclusively in theaters worldwide.
