Intel’s Lunar Lake CPU will not feature its Hyper-Threading Technology

Summary:

  • Intel’s upcoming Lunar Lake CPU will feature an 8-core and 8-thread setup along with a 1.8 Ghz base clock.
  • Intel will not be including its Hyper-Threading technology in the Lunar Lake processor.
  • Intel will be launching the Lunar Lake processors by the end of 2024.

You can expect multiple products by Intel launching this year including the new Intel Core i9-14900KS desktop processor and Lunar Lake laptop processors. Thanks to a recent leak by Zhihu user @Xziar, we now have an insight about the upcoming Lunar Lake CPU.

The Intel Lunar Lake CPU features an 8-core and 8-thread configuration without Hyper-Threading. It will consist of four Lion Cove-based performance cores and four Skymont-based efficiency cores. The base clock measures up to 1.8 GHz while the boost clock can go up to 2.8 GHz.

The cache configuration of the Lunar Lake is identical to the Intel Core Ultra Meteor Lake, i.e. L1 cache (836 KB) and L2 cache (14 MB). However, the L3 cache is relatively less at just 12 MB. Although some reports suggested that it would be 16 MB instead. Looks like we might have to wait until the final launch for the accurate details.

Compared to the Meteor Lake series, which was launched a few months back in December last year, there are a few notable changes in the architecture for the Lunar Lake CPU. It is also speculated that the Lunar Lake MX processors will feature power-efficient Battlemage GPU cores with DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 support.

Many tech enthusiasts have pointed out the lack of Hyper-Threading in Lunar Lake. Intel might decide to include it before the final launch since it has become an integral part of modern desktop CPUs.

Of course, Intel is yet to confirm any details or specs about the upcoming Lunar Lake CPU. So, it is recommended that you take these reports with a grain of salt. However, it looks like the perfect successor to Meteor Lake is arriving soon! Intel is expected to launch Lunar Lake by the end of 2024.
