Ever since Baldur’s Gate 3 was released, Shadowheart, the Trickery Domain Cleric, has been a fan favorite for players. She’s one of the first characters you’ll have the opportunity to recruit. Having a healer like her in the party can be incredibly useful.
However, before you can recruit her, you’ll have to free her from a Mindflayer Pod. What makes this awkward is that you can easily miss out on recruiting her early on when the opportunity is presented, which will cost you later. To avoid that, here’s how you can free her:
1. How to free Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3?
To free Shadowheart in Baldur’s Gate 3, here’s what players need to do:
- Find a second Mindflayer Pod located in the room next to where the first one is located.
- Head up the stairs to find a corpse whose body contains the Eldritch Rune.
- Make your way back to Shadowheart and interact with the control panel beside her.
- Insert the rune into the panel, perform a Wisdom Check and free Shadowheart.
2. Investigate the Mindflayer Pods
Shadowheart will be trapped inside a Mindflayer Pod, which you’ll encounter after a fight. She will try to pry open the Pod but to no avail as it can’t be opened with bare hands.
Reassure Shadowheart by speaking to her, then head past the pod and the control panel towards the eastern exit, located to the right of the panel.
3. Find the Eldritch Rune
You’ll encounter an Intellect Devourer in the hallway patrolling, which you can ignore and run past into the next room. Unless you want to lock horns with it for some XP, there’s no use in fighting it.
The next room will contain a second Mindflayer Pod. Head up the stairs behind the Pod and look for a corpse there at the top. Loot the body to find the Eldritch Rune and make your way back to Shadowheart.
4. Place the Rune Into the Socket
Once you’ve made your way back, take the Eldritch Rune to the control panel beside Shadowheart and interact with it. You’ll be displayed with an option to do the following:
Place your hand on the console.
After placing your hand on the console, you’ll find out that you have a parasite placed inside your head. You’ll be required to do an “Illithid Check” which is a Wisdom Check. Use your Illithid power to will the Mindflayer Pod open and free Shadowheart.
