Jane Campion’s The Power of the Dog, a western drama starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kirsten Dunst, is not a film about dogs—yet it now holds the power to improve the lives of man’s best friend.
Ahead of the Oscars telecast this Sunday, March 27, Pawp announced that it plans to donate $10,000 to animal rescues each time the film’s name is verbally mentioned during the event. (via PEOPLE)
The Power of the Dog is one of the frontrunners and the most-nominated film for the 2022 Oscars, with a total of 12 Academy Awards nominations.
In a press release, Pawp, a support service system for pet-owners, stated that the company is looking at a total donation of up to $1,000,000 to help shelter pets and animal rescues.
“While Power of the Dog has nothing to do with dogs, Pawp is thrilled that it is the most nominated film, guaranteeing pups in need will be this year’s true winners.”
Marc Atiyeh, CEO of Pawp
Seeing how the film will be a highlight and talking point during the event, “Power of the Dog” is bound to be mentioned numerous times. Pawp needs 100 mentions to reach its goal of $1,000,000.
However, the twelve mentions during the nominations announcements and a couple more on the side still seem promising enough to change various animals’ lives for the better.
The Power of the Dog has been critically acclaimed and praised ever since it premiered at the 78th Venice International Film Festival last September.
The film has already won at the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, and Critics’ Choice, and is expected to bag some Oscars as well.
(Here’s hoping at least the film’s cast and crew chants “Power of the Dog” each time they get a chance.)
The Power of the Dog is currently available to stream on Netflix.
