Before his demise, Logan had asked his children to allow the deal with GoJo to go through, but Kendall & Roman are doing everything they can to break that promise. In the latest episode of Succession season 4, the Roy brothers have made moves that might have killed the deal with the other media giant and possibly set off the implosion of Waystar Royco!
In episode 6, Kendall announces their company’s latest venture into the home-building business. The over-achieving presentation about Living+, which will present occupants with exclusive entertainment, security, and medical advantages, seems too good to be true – and it is. Kendall gives this idea to boost the company’s stock price, rendering GoJo unable to buy the company at the raised cost.
While it might shoo Matsson, the new project might also present a problem for Waystar in the future. The short-sighted Kendall can’t yet see the repercussion his announcement will have on the company’s future, and he might have set off the doom for the family business.
Meanwhile, Roman has implicated their company further by using a fake post-humous message from Logan in favor of Living+. It may have worked well enough at the presentation, but it’s sure to earn the co-CEOs some backlash soon. And don’t even get me started on Roman’s drunk-on-power firings!
After Roman fires Joy, head of Waystar Studios’ film and TV division, he also goes ahead and fires Gerri after she disagrees with his decision. Considering Joy has already lawyered up and the latter will follow suit, Roman may have dug yet another grave that will prove difficult to climb out of.
He does try to undo it, going to Kendall to reinstate them before matters get worse, but Kendall thinks of them as power moves new CEOs should make and denies doing so. These boys will be the death of Logan Roy’s company!
Speaking of unescapable self-dug graves, Matsson has tweeted his way to some severe damage. In a move to undermine Kendall’s Living+, the GoJo CEO mocked the community-building idea, comparing it to a Nazi concentration camp.
While Kendall plays it off in a smart comment, Matsson’s ill-thought Holocaust reference ends with his reputation taking a serious hit. The repercussions of Matsson’s final move at the end of episode 6 might not have been explored well enough, but if the immediate backlash is to be taken seriously, the opposing CEO is in big trouble!
At a glance, Royco may have dodged a bullet with GoJo, and Matsson may have sealed his fate. But upon closer inspection, Kendall & Roman seem to be driving the company into an early demise. What will happen in the next episode of Succession’s final season? Drop your theories in the comments below!
