GTA: The Trilogy The Definitive Edition releases on Android and iOS

Summary

  • Netflix has released GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition on Android, iOS, and iPad for free for Netflix Subscribers.
  • Those who do not have a Netflix subscription can enjoy the titles at USD 20 each.
  • The titles on Android and iOS feature a classic lighting mode reminiscent of the original titles.

A couple of weeks ago, Netflix announced its acquisition of the rights to Grand Theft Auto: Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, which contains GTA: San Andreas, GTA III, and GTA Vice City.

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition has now been released for free on iOS and Android for all Netflix subscribers. However, those without a Netflix subscription can also enjoy the titles at an extra cost of USD 20 per title from either the App Store or Google Play.

Remember that the ad-free tier of Netflix costs USD 15.49, and the Standard edition with ads comes at USD 6.99. This makes the USD 20 pricing for each game sound pretty steep.

The GTA Trilogy was developed by an in-house studio called Grove Street Games and was released initially in 2021. However, the game had a multitude of issues.

This ranged from mere visual issues to gameplay-related bugs that hampered the legacy of these legendary titles, which serve as the foundational games for many OG players of the GTA Franchise.

As a result, Grove Street Games was sacked from the project, and the release of the mobile version was postponed until 2023. It seemed unlikely that this title would ever be released on the mobile.

However, Netflix’s acquisition of rights to this title propelled it to a swift launch. Regardless, fans were still scared that the mobile device label would be just as buggy as the original release on PC.

They were proven wrong when the three titles were released. The titles look the best on the iPad, leveraging the power of the iPad and the raw processing power of the M1 chip.

The developers also added a touch of nostalgia with new lighting that recreates the look of the original titles. The GTA titles are expected to perform well for Android and iOS.
