Sheen and Tennant Share the Easter Egg Clues for Good Omens Season 2

Season 2 of the Prime Video series, Good Omens, will feature several Easter eggs that reference other shows and films, according to stars Michael Sheen and David Tennant. The series is based on Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel.

The first season followed an angel and a demon’s friendship throughout the history of the world and their efforts to prevent the apocalypse. The second season will focus on their ongoing bond and the mysterious disappearance of the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm).

In an interview with Inverse , which took place before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Sheen and Tennant revealed some of the Easter eggs that viewers can spot in the background of Good Omens season 2. The series will see them reprise their roles as Aziraphale and Crowley.

Besides Doctor Who, which has many connections to the cast and crew of the Prime Video series, Sheen said there are also Easter eggs for other TV shows and films, ranging from subtle to obvious. Here is what Tennant and Sheen said in detail:

That’s Neil [Gaiman], isn’t it? Neil’s a fan, and Douglas [Mackinnon], our director as well, who’s worked on Doctor Who, so there are a few overlaps. But there are lots of, not just Doctor Who, there are lots of references to all sorts of things that are sprinkled in there.

Michael Sheen: For film and TV buffs, there are so many little Easter eggs. There’s not a scene that there isn’t something going on in there.

Tennant: Yes. Some of them are very explicit, others you have to really search for, and lots I still don’t understand. But there’s a lot going on in there and there’s a lot of hidden content.

David Tennant

Good Omens and Doctor Who share many connections. Tennant, who portrayed the Tenth Doctor and will reappear for Doctor Who’s 60th-anniversary celebrations, and Sheen, who voiced the TARDIS-eating entity House in the season 6 episode “The Doctor’s Wife,” are both part of the cast.

Gaiman, who wrote The Doctor’s Wife and other episodes, is also the creator of Good Omens. Moreover, Mackinnon, who directed several Doctor Who episodes for Tennant, Smith, and Capaldi, is the director of Good Omens as well.

Good Omens season 1 also featured references to other popular shows and films. Gatiss and Pemberton, who worked with Mackinnon on Sherlock, had guest roles in an episode.

Shearsmith, who co-created Inside Number 9 with Pemberton, played William Shakespeare in a scene where Aziraphale and Crowley attended a rehearsal of Hamlet.

Additionally, the original authors of the novel were acknowledged; Gaiman made a cameo as a cinema patron who fell asleep, while Pratchett’s scarf and fedora were displayed in Aziraphale’s bookshop along with some of his other novels.

The main focus of Good Omens season 2 will be the ongoing friendship between Aziraphale and Crowley and the implications of Gabriel’s unexpected comeback, but there will also be many references to other media.

The cast has many shared projects that the show can pay homage to. Therefore, Sheen and Tennant’s Easter egg hints have prepared the viewers for a fun watch of Good Omens season 2.
