2. Recap of Episode 2 of Gachiakuta
After Rudo is thrown out from the Sphere, we see him fighting to survive in the world below, called the Ground. As Rudo gets attacked by Trash Beasts, he is saved by a mysterious man named Enjin. Enjin, a member of a group called the Cleaners, takes out the monsters with a weapon disguised as an umbrella.
As the episode moves forward, we learn more about the universe. The Ground isn’t underground at all. It’s the surface of the world, ruined by the Sphere’s endless dumping of trash and toxins. The Trash Beasts are the result of all that destruction. Choking on the toxic air and barely clinging to consciousness, Rudo starts having visions and painful flashbacks.
Things take a much darker turn when Rudo is captured by a group of human traffickers who plan to sell him because he comes from the Sphere. However, driven by anger and the need to survive, Rudo awakens his hidden ability as a Giver. He turns the chains holding him hostage into weapons and fights back. After witnessing this, Enjin invites Rudo to join the Cleaners. Rudo, in true Rudo fashion, refuses.
3. Speculation of Episode 3 of Gachiakuta
Now that Rudo’s Giver powers have awakened, the next episode will probably begin by showing us what that actually means for him. Can he control this new power? And are there others like him out there? Enjin doesn’t seem like the type to give up easily, so we’ll likely see him trying again to bring Rudo into the Cleaners.
Whether Rudo likes it or not, he is a part of the Ground now. The bigger mystery about who killed Regto also still needs to be uncovered. Then there is that masked figure watching Rudo from the trash hills. Are they a friend, an enemy, or something else entirely?
We might also meet more members of the Cleaners and get a better look at how they live and fight in the Ground.
4. About Gachiakuta
Living in the slums of a wealthy town, Rudo and his foster father Regto try to coexist with the rest of the town’s residents, but Rudo despises the wastefulness of the upper class. Ignoring the warnings from those around him, Rudo regularly rummages through the town’s garbage in search of anything useful or valuable to save from the “Abyss”—a massive hole where anything considered trash is dumped, including people. Rudo’s biological father was one such person, having been thrown into the Abyss after he was accused of murder.
One day, after running into a mysterious figure on the way home, Rudo returns to find Regto’s dying body on the floor. He is immediately found at the scene by the authorities and is charged with murder. No one believes his claims of innocence, and he is thrown into the Abyss. Instead of dying, however, he finds himself in a strange, foul-smelling place surrounded by monsters made out of trash.
When Rudo is attacked by said monsters, he is saved by a man named Enjin, who reveals himself to be a “Cleaner”—someone who uses special weapons called Vital Instruments to combat these creatures. In order to get his revenge on the one who killed Regto, Rudo reluctantly becomes a Cleaner to fight his way back up and out of the Abyss.
