Final Fantasy 7 Remake receives an update day ahead of Rebirth’s release

Summary:

  • Developers Square Enix have revealed update 1.003 for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, just days ahead of the release of FF 7 Rebirth.
  • The update says it includes minor bug fixes but introduces cosmetic changes to Tifa’s outfit.
  • The update also turns off the FFVIIHook mod in-game, shocking most fans, given how valuable the mod was.

The hotly anticipated release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is just around the corner. The scheduled release is on a special day – February 29th. However, another Final Fantasy title has made headlines just days ahead of the Rebirth.

Final Fantasy VII Remake has received update version 1.003, released for PlayStation and PC. The update was released without any warning. Some gamers have noted changes to Tifa’s clothes in one flashback scene, and the update has stopped the popular FFVIIHook Mod from functioning.

Interestingly, the developers of Square Enix did not mention any of these changes in the patch notes. The patch notes read a relatively dry “Update to Contents: Fixes to Several Bugs.”

The developers have added a black undershirt under Tifa’s white shirt. Players speculate that this change was made to resemble Tifa’s clothes in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which is due for a release soon.

The most significant change is that the FFVIIHook mod has stopped working since this update shipped. FFVIIHook is arguably one of the best mods for FF 7 Remake, which enables console commands, allowing them to configure the title to their liking.

It has been four years since the release of FF 7 Remake. Therefore, it does not make much sense for the developers to release an update now.

However, the developers could be anticipating many players replaying the Remake since Rebirth is coming out in less than a week.

Despite not having been released yet, Rebirth already has excellent reviews. Most fans are excited about the vast number of side quests the title offers and the variety of locations like Junon, Costa Del Sol, Gold Saucer, and Nibleheim that the players can enjoy in less than a day.
