Everything We Know About Dave Filoni’s Magnum Opus: The Mandalorian Movie

Lucasfilm’s Dave Filoni has been working on a Star Wars Mandalorian movie for a while now. The current storylines in the Star Wars Disney+ TV shows are all supposed to blend together to set up Filoni’s film.

It all began with The Mandalorian, Disney+’s flagship series, which premiered when Disney+ was launched officially. The series is set five years after the events of Return of the Jedi, the third film in the original Star Wars trilogy. The Mandalorian set the stage for the making of several other Star Wars shows and films.

The ending of The Mandalorian season 3 indicated the return of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the main antagonist of the upcoming Mandalorian movie. The plot uncovering Thrawn’s return is further explored in the latest Star Wars series, Ahsoka. The series presents a live-action version of Thrawn for the first time.

In the Ahsoka season 1 finale, Thrawn returns to the original Star Wars galaxy, setting the stage for the big Mandalorian movie and the debut of many characters on the big screen.

Filoni has confirmed that the Mandalorian movie will be a culmination of the storylines of several ongoing Star Wars shows, such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, The Book of Boba Fett, and even Skeleton Crew. In other words, the film is set to be the Avengers: Endgame of the Star Wars universe.

The Mandalorian season 3 established a different status quo and introduced an Imperial Shadow Council. This confirmed that a council is looking forward to Thrawn’s return. Thrawn eventually returned to Ahsoka, but many important characters, including Ahsoka and Sabine, were stranded in another unknown galaxy.

If we merge the storylines of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, it still does not seem strong enough to set up the ultimate storyline of the film. Many of these shows require at least one or two seasons more to do justice to this build-up.

As of now, we do not know too many details about the plot of the film. However, it is confirmed that Dave Filoni will direct the film. He is the executive producer of the Mandoverse shows. The details of the cast and crew are still under wraps, but several important characters are expected to be a part of the film.

Characters like Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff), Greef Karga (Carl Weathers), and The Armorer (Emily Swallow) from The Mandalorian are expected to be a part of the film. The Book of Boba Fett also has some characters who could be in the film’s cast. Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) and Fennec Shand (Min-Na Wen) are expected to appear.

Other than them, characters like Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), and Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) are surely going to be a part of the upcoming film.

The Mandalorian movie was first announced at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration, but no official release date was confirmed. As of now, it is difficult to predict a potential release date, considering it depends on many other ongoing shows and how they wrap up their storylines.

Let’s hope we get some news about the movie soon. We will keep you updated on this space!
