Elden Ring’s infamous Chainsaw Glitch spotted again in PvP mode

Summary

  • An Elden Ring player posted a recent instance of the infamous Chainsaw Glitch on the subreddit.
  • This glitch breaks the gameplay, rendering the player wielding a certain combination of weapons almost unbeatable.
  • The glitch was first spotted over a year ago with the devs releasing a patch, but it remains in-game.

Games developed by FromSoftware have historically been the hardest to beat. Titles like Dark Souls, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, and Elden Ring are known for the gameplay quite a bit more complex than the norm, keeping players hooked for hours.

Over at r/EldenRing, u/Deadsap266 posted a clip showing their opponent in the PvP mode exploiting the infamous “Chainsaw Glitch” in Elden Ring that developers FromSoftware had tried to fix in the past. OP was killed instantly from a long distance right after the match started, leaving them questioning if they had encountered a hacker in-game.

Glitches like these are often a result of a lack of foresight on the part of the developers and an overly creative fanbase. This glitch has been quite notorious for a while now.

As a part of the “Chainsaw Glitch,” players can combine two separate weapons, acquirable in-game – The Serpent-Hunter Great Spear and Ghiza’s Wheel. Combining these gives the player an extremely long range with an invisible chainsaw-like weapon.

It’s not like that this glitch has not reached the developers. FromSoftware had even released a patch for it months ago. However, the creative player base has found new ways to exploit this glitch, making the game frustrating for some.

The comments under the post suggested that players should block players who exploit these glitches. This will ensure that these players resorting to unfair means have no one to play multiplayer matches with.

This is also a call to the developers to fix this glitch. They should end this persistent glitch that has been ruining the gaming experience of many players for several months.
