While Elden Ring is a stellar game that has been receiving overwhelming praise, there are some issues with the game that have to be fixed. These issues have carried over to the Steam Deck, as it is effectively a portable PC. However, FromSoftware has been listening to the players, and a fix for the screen stuttering should be out very soon.
Valve’s Steam Deck was released on the same day as Elden Ring, and the game was verified for the handheld just hours before launch. So, it goes without saying that Steam Deck users would use their new console to play one of the most anticipated games of the year. This didn’t lead to an ideal scenario, as players complained of stuttering issues with the Steam Deck version of the game.
Thankfully, this stuttering issue should be resolved by the end of next week. This information comes to us from industry insider Pierre-Loup Griffais on Twitter, who posted a short video of the upcoming Elden Ring patch.
The update states that the development team has been working to fix the issue by reducing the background streaming assets to help with the heavy stuttering. Sadly, this fix will be helpful only to the Steam Deck users; the PC players experiencing stuttering on their systems will have to wait a bit longer.
Issues like these are expected with modern-day open-world titles. While Elden Ring has its fair share of problems, it is not at the level of infamous releases such as Cyberpunk 2077 and Battlefield 2042. Every platform has complained of frame rate issues and poorly timed stuttering affecting their experience. Thankfully, none of these is game-breaking.
We can expect Elden Ring to get better as time goes on, more problems are flagged, and ultimately fixed. These fixes will bring Elden Ring to the intended level of playability and make it a solid contender for 2022’s Game of the Year award.
