Money Heist: Korea Ending Explained- Does the Gang Escape from the Mint?

The Korean adaptation of the popular Spanish thriller series La Casa de Papel does not change much in the plot. The main plot, the characters, and the twists are the same. Naturally, we never expected the ending to be different.

Money Heist: Korea focuses on a gang of robbers led by the mysterious Professor, who plans a grand heist at a Korean mint. The series is set in an alternate universe where North and South Korea are united.

While La Casa de Papel dealt with important socio-economic issues in Spain, the Korean version makes important statements about Korean politics and social issues.

By the end of the series, the Professor’s grand crime reaches its climax, with a great deal of adrenaline rush. He devised a plan for the gang to gain the status of “political criminals” and reveal the true culprits of the society by unmasking the corruption of the authorities.

This transformed the heist members from mere thieves to public heroes in the eyes of the people. But does the gang make it out alive?

1. Does the gang get caught in Money Heist: Korea?

The Professor and his gang successfully escape through the tunnel that they had been digging since the beginning of the heist. The gang boards a train to Russia while The Professor travels to Kherson.

Money Heist: Korea ends like the original series, as all the gang members escape the Korean mint safely. While Berlin dies in the original series, he survives the heist in the Korean version.

Woo-jin tries to chase The Professor after discovering his true identity. She remembers that The Professor had once told her he wanted to take a train journey to Kherson, a port city in Ukraine. Following his hints, Woo-jin reaches the train station and catches the Professor.

Although she points a gun at him, her emotions get the better of her, and she is unable to shoot. The Professor boards the train and escapes. The two reunite in Kherson a year later, just like The Professor and Raquel in the original series.

2. What happens at the end of Money Heist: Korea?

Money Heist: Korea ends with The Professor reuniting with his gang at the underground escape tunnel they built over the time they spent in the mint. They successfully escape the mint by deceiving the police.

To divert the police, The Professor threatens them that bombs have been set up in a public place where the people have been protesting against the government. However, in reality, no bombs go off.

Instead, the Professor sends a host of piggy-bank-shaped balloons filled with cash. He sends off a billion dollars through the balloons, which scatter all over the public square for the people to collect. This way, The Professor builds an invisible connection with the masses and becomes a hero for them.

Moreover, the chaos enables the gang to camouflage themselves and escape the mint. The robbers wear the same red jumpsuit as the protestors and escape through the crowd. At this point, Berlin and Seoul also come out, although they were assumed to be dead.

The Professor again escapes Woo-jin at the station, as mentioned above. However, the two reunite in Kherson after a year, where he tells her about another “revolutionary crime” that he believes will go down in history. Interestingly, these are the exact words he used to describe the Royal Mint heist at the beginning.
