In the Money Heist season 2 finale, Berlin does not escape with the rest of the gang; he stays back to delay the police. This helps the rest of the gang to escape, while Berlin is shot by the police.

Season 2 also revealed that Berlin was suffering from a terminal illness, Helmer’s myopathy, and had only a few months to live. He decided to sacrifice his life to save the others, as he knew he would die anyway.

In other words, he did not make it out alive after the Royal Mint heist. He is dead during the events of the Royal Bank heist, which takes place in seasons 3, 4, and 5.

2. How is Berlin alive in Money Heist season 3?

Berlin is not alive during the events of Money Heist season 3 and beyond. He appears in the series through flashbacks where we see him planning the Royal Bank heist with his brother, The Professor.

Berlin’s presence in seasons 3, 4, and 5 is solely through flashbacks. The flashbacks are intended to tell us more about The Professor’s backstory and how he came up with the heist of the Royal Bank.

Since Berlin and The Professor are half-brothers, Berlin features prominently in the flashbacks. It is revealed that the Royal Bank heist was Berlin’s brainchild, and he helped The Professor plan the heist.

As confirmed by the makers, they found a way to include Berlin in seasons 3-5 because of his popularity. Berlin is one of the most discussed and popular characters in the series. Many fans were upset after his death in the season 2 finale.

However, the makers did not let us down and included his character through flashbacks in the next seasons. Moreover, Netflix made a spin-off series based on Berlin and his adventures. The series premiered on Netflix in December 2023.
