It’s finally here! Deadpool and Wolverine will leave you stunned with allusions, mini-spots, and Easter eggs.
Ryan Reynolds reprises his role as Deadpool, accompanied by Hugh Jackman.
The cast features numerous Wolverines, Deadpools (including Lady Deadpool), and stars from previous Fox films and even one from a film that never existed. That’s only the beginning of what the film has in store.
With one-liners flying by at breakneck speed, there’s a strong chance you missed at least a few of the references and inside jokes.
Here are all the details you might have missed:
10 Some recognizable relics
You should look out for a few well-known artifacts when Deadpool and Wolverine arrive in The Void. Both Thor’s winged helmet and Captain America’s shield are depicted classically.
The Resistance’s base contains a Scarlet Witch statue, a Fatasticar, Thanos’ Q-ships, a modified version of Red Skull’s former vehicle, and the 20th Century Fox logo.
9 Chris Evans as Human Torch
Chris Evans has one of the most unexpected appearances in the film when he appears in the Void and at first seems to be portraying a different version of Captain America.
However, a short while later, he exclaims, “Flame on!” and it’s clear that he is Johnny Storm, the Human Torch of the Fantastic Four.
The post-credits scene was especially shocking, as Evans was seen swearing like a sailor.
8 Blade’s Return
In the Void, there is much talk concerning superhero variants, to which Wesley Snipes’ Blade states, “There’s only one Blade.”
Deadpool responds by staring awkwardly into the camera, obliquely hinting to the viewers that a Blade movie starring Mahershala Ali will indeed be returning.
The MCU Blade movie has been stuck in development for years, so there may be an accidental additional dimension to the joke.
After all, no one thought Blade, played by Wesley Snipes, would appear in the MCU before we saw Ali’s updated version on screen.
7 The Variants of Wolverine
Hugh Jackman portraying multiple Wolverine Variants, including one that may serve as Earth-10005’s new anchor, gives us a sense of nostalgia and serves as the ultimate tribute to the man himself.
There’s the comic-accurate 5’3″ Wolverine, Weapon Omega from Age of Apocalypse, Patch, Old Man Logan, and a crucified version of the character that recreates the iconic cover of Uncanny X-Men #251. There’s also an unmasked Wolverine fighting The Hulk in a traditional brown outfit.
The biggest surprise is left for last: Henry Cavill briefly appears as “The Cavillrine.
6 Liefeld’s Just Feet
For the true fans of comic books, here’s one for you. Behind Wolverine and Deadpool is a store named “Liefeld’s Just Feet,” where they are getting ready to confront a fleet of Deadpool variations.
This is a tribute to Deadpool co-creator Rob Liefeld, who is well-known for having acknowledged that he is terrible at drawing feet and normally sets his scenes such that the lower body parts of characters are hidden.
In comic book fandom, this joke has been going on for years. Deadpool himself casually referenced Liefeld as “a guy who can’t draw feet.”
The first trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine revealed this Easter egg and the ever-humorous Liefeld didn’t take long to share his delight on social media.
5 Stark Tower
When Deadpool uses Cable’s time-travel device to travel to the Sacred Timeline, he meets with Happy Hogan in Tony Stark’s office to discuss his potential membership in the Avengers.
There are numerous Easter Eggs to discover, including Captain America’s half-constructed shield, Agent Coulson’s playing cards (which he held when Loki killed him), Pepper Potts’ Forbes Magazine Cover, Ultron’s Iron Man disguise, the Mark V suitcase, and Tony’s inscribed Arc Reactor.
There’s even a strong link to Spider-Man, making a popular Iron Man 2 fan theory official MCU canon.
4 The Squad of Deadpool
There are a ton of Variants in Deadpool & Wolverine that we never thought would appear on screen in the MCU, However, the Deadpool Corps plays a minor role in the movie.
While Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds’ wife, portrays Ladypool, her coworker Gordon is credited as Nicepool. Kidpool is portrayed by their daughter, Inez Reynolds, while Babypool is portrayed by their newest hire, Olin Reynolds.
It’s just a bunch of Reynold(s) making us laugh!
Nathan Fillion plays Headpool, while Matthew McConaughey finally joins the MCU as Cowboypool. Dogpool is played by Peggy the Dog, Canadapool by stunt performer Alex Kyshkovych, Welshpool by Paul Mullin of Wrexham and A.F.C. actor and dancer Nick Pauley is Dancepool in the opening credits.
3 Hints about Secret Wars
It is well known that the MCU is preparing for Avengers: Secret Wars, which is scheduled for a 2027 release.
Not long after Deadpool arrives in the Void, there is subtle hints about his and Wolverines potential role in Secret wars. When he wakes up, he is surrounded by an enormous number of Marvel memorabilia, including the Hellicarrier, Captain America’s (Chris Evans) shield, Thor’s (Chris Hemsworth) helmet, and, yes, the Secret Wars #5 comic book.
This confirms that Deadpool and Wolverine will appear in the Secret Wars film.
2 A cameo by Stan Lee
Although the late Stan Lee did not contribute to the creation of Deadpool, he did appear on screen in both the films and a trailer for the sequel.
Lee appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, where the titular characters hack through the Deadpool Corps aboard the bus.
A cartoon depiction of the renowned comic book author is displayed on the side, promoting what looks to be a cleaning service. It’s a touching way to remember Lee after his passing in 2018 and a great way to honor his enormous influence on the Marvel Universe.
1 The movie concludes with a reference to “The Avengers.”
After saving the day, Deadpool and Wolverine ultimately celebrate by eating some shawarma, the ultimate MCU action.
This is an obvious reference to the iconic moment from The Avengers (2012) post-credits, where the superheroes chow down on some well-earned shawarma in the abandoned restaurant after winning the Battle of New York.
About the food’s explosive rise in popularity after the premiere of 2012 movie, Deadpool outrageously claims, “Did you know the Avengers discovered shawarma?” as he and Wolverine indulge in shawarma at the end of the movie.
Whether you enjoy all of the Easter eggs, subtle references, and not-so-subtle gags, or you believe they are a lazy substitute for creative writing and strong storytelling and are merely for corporate synergy, there’s no denying Deadpool & Wolverine is jam-packed with them.
