Square Enix Announces Cross-Region Data Centers for Final Fantasy 14

Summary

  • Developers Square Enix have announced that they will be incorporating a highly requested feature into Final Fantasy 14.
  • This includes the Cross Region Data Centres that fans had requested since the Endwalker expansion.
  • The Cross-Region Data Center testing starts on March 24th and will last until server maintenance starts for Dawntrail expansion.

Final Fantasy 14 is gearing up for its imminent release on March 21st. They have announced a giveaway with Xbox to attract players towards the title, which is currently in beta and offers a free trial until level 70.

Square Enix has announced they will start testing the Cross Region Data Centre Travel on March 24th, 11 PM ET for Final Fantasy 14. This test will last until Dawntrail’s server maintenance starts in the summer.

Players must remember that the testing is limited to Japan, North America, and Europe. Square Enix has clarified that the limited testing is because the Materia Data Centre in the Oceanic region will be the destination for players to test the new technology.

Using the Oceanic Server, players will also be able to group up with friends from other regions. The Materia data center houses five realms: Bismark, Ravana, Sephirot, Sophia, and Zurvan.

This means that the players from Japan, Europe, and North American Data centers can travel to and from Oceanic Data Centers. Square Enix is doing everything possible to ensure that the Dawntrail Expansion pack for Final Fantasy 14 has a better and smoother launch-day experience than Endwalker.

The developers have clarified the latency they might experience while connecting to the Materia Data Centre from other continents. This can be attributed to the number of players currently using that system.

The launch will happen just a day after the Final Fantasy 14’s PAX East Panel on Dawntrail. This ensures that players get plenty of content before the expansion pack’s release.
