Call of the Night Season 1 Recap
The first season of the anime follows Kou, a regular 14-year-old boy who is extremely bored with his regular school life and develops insomnia. While wandering the city at midnight, he encounters a strange but alluring woman named Nanakusas Nazuna, who is also a vampire. Thus started their weird relationship: one in which Nazuna is attracted to Kou for his blood, and Kou yearns to be a vampire so he could be alongside Nazuna.
Most of the anime featured their midnight adventures around the city where they talked about random stuff, strolled around their city, and had their awkward and cute moments. Kou progressively felt like the night lifestyle suited him more, and completely stopped going to school. He learnt that he needed to fall in love with a vampire to be one, so he is now determined to fall in love with Nazuna.
Plenty of other characters were also introduced in the anime, one being Kou’s childhood friend and classmate, Akira, who had concerns about Kou’s current lifestyle and the weird vampire woman he hung out with. She hoped to bring him back to a more “regular life”, by exerting her own influence on him as a friend. We were also introduced to a character, Uguisu Anko, a vampire hunter who also made Nazuna’s life harder than it needed to be.
The season ended with Kou realizing that falling in love isn’t that easy, and this was a conclusion he drew from the amount of time he spent with Nazuna trying to fall in love with her. He also realised that it was hard to continue his nightlife the way he wanted to. Ultimately, Nazuna’s and Kou’s bonds grew stronger, but Kou still has his mind full of questions about love, freedom, and friendships.
