After 3 long years of wait, Call of the Night is finally back with the second season of the anime, and the visuals are just as stunning as we remembered them to be. Speaking of things that haven’t changed, Kou still knows next to nothing about love and romance, and Nazuna is still extremely shy about the topic. What kind of love will bloom between such an odd pair?
In this article, we’ll recap what happened in episode 1 of Call of the Night season 2. We’ll also cover everything you need to know about the release of episode 2. 2. Recap of Call of the Night Season 2 Episode 1
Episode 1 of Call of the Night season 2 started with Kou and Nazuna playing video games in Nazuna’s apartment. They were interrupted by Niko and Hatsuka, who turned their console off to grab their attention. Niko told Nazuna that she wanted Kou to accompany her somewhere, and Nazuna said she wouldn’t give Kou away. They had a bit of an argument here, and Niko took Kou away anyway, and Hatsuka stayed with Nazuna.
Turns out, Kou was taken away to Nazuna’s sisters’ place so that the group could listen to Kou and Nazuna’s teenage romance story while drinking. Being a subject of someone’s entertainment while drinking was something Kou despised, but Niko guised their ploy under the noble deed of “helping him with his romance”. Their cover didn’t last long, though, because not one of Nazuna’s sisters tried to pretend and just laughed away, leaving Kou with a bitter aftertaste.
Meanwhile, Hatsuka took Nazuna to a fancy place and had her try out a new outfit, something that was a little more girly. Hatsuka told her that her normal outfit was a bit too erotic, which was why the difference between erotic and cute looks might grab Kou’s attention. However, when Nazuna knew that her regular outfit was seductive, she wondered why Kou never seemed interested in her, even when they visited a love hotel for the kicks, Kou never made a move on her.
A topic similar to this was raised at Niko’s place, and we realised that Kou still doesn’t know much about romance, and has probably not had a sexual awakening just yet. The sisters found the fact that Kou doesn’t have a first love to be extremely pure. Hatsuka and Nazuna, too, reached a conclusion similar to this and didn’t dwell on the topic.
After the party, Nazuna and Kou met up and took a short trip to Tokyo. Kou couldn’t understand why everyone was so excited about Tokyo, but it turned out Nazuna was pretty excited about Tokyo too. They trespassed into a zoo to find out that the animals are actually moved elsewhere during the night. Their ultimate goal was to learn something about romance by observing the couples in the Tokyo alleys, which is creepy and not very effective.
3. Speculation of Episode 2 of Call of the Night
Episode 1 of Call of the Night has simply thrown us back into Kou and Nazuna’s usual nightlife. Many of the important characters were also featured, except for Mahiru and Akira. The goal was to emphasise the fact that Kou only has 10 months left to fall in love with Nazuna, and he still doesn’t know what love is.
The main theme of season 2 of the anime is to uncover Nazuna’s past, so we can expect the next episode of the anime to take us there, maybe even introduce either of the two new characters: Nanakusa Haru and Hoshimi Kiku.

Call of the Night manga by Kotoyama was first published in the Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 2019. The series will receive an anime adaptation in July 2022.
