Entering the exam room, Yatora finds that the assignment for the second exam is to paint anything with the nude model presented. Okada, Ishii, and Sakuraba visit to collect their things at the cram school. Mrs. Ooba realizes Sakuraba is in her third year trying the art exams.

She asks what Sakuraba plans to do next. Sakuraba says she’ll try the exam one last time, and if things don’t go well in art, she’ll get a full-time job. Mrs. Ooba wishes her the best as she knows how these art exams can be mentally and physically draining.

At the exam, Yatora, with his headache, tries to find out what the motif of a nude model truly interprets. Thinking back to what nakedness means, he examines the meaning around it. Yatora then starts to doze off with his aching head and sleeps.

Waking up at break time, Yatora realizes he had dozed off. He then feels a bit better and starts to paint out what he can for the time being. As the first day of the exam is over, he lets Mrs. Ooba know his situation over a call.

Kuwana and Hashida meet Mrs. Ooba and show their ideas for the exam. Meanwhile, Yatora’s fever gives him headaches again as he lies in bed. He then gets a call from Mrs. Ooba. Hearing about his situation, Mrs. Ooba thinks he should skip the exam this year.

Yatora tells Mrs. Ooba about his idea being a weak concept. Surprised by his determination, Mrs. Ooba asks Yatora to send her his vision. She finds the composition suitable but the concept weak. Mrs. Ooba then asks Yatora if he would like to try a secret weapon.

It is shown that Yatora’s secret weapons are medicines and fever relief patches for his headaches. The next day, at the exam site, Yatora thinks about the steps in creating art – theme, composition, and portrayal. Since he has done only composition, he must decide on a theme soon.

Yotasuke states Yatora should give his best today, given his situation. With the second day of the second exam starting, Yatora gets an idea looking at the model’s skin. He gets to work by changing the canvas’s background while showing the rawness of the canvas to display his concept.

Figuring out the canvas texture represents naked skin, Yatora adds flat colors in the background. He gives depth to the model by painting closer to the figure with dammar varnish. He only has to worry about the other parts of the canvas now.

After the lunch break, Yatora thinks about how he has reached art and gets an idea for the theme. He realizes he was supposed to see through his own perspective of ‘true self,’ which is his pathetic and unreliable self.

As Yatora finds the answer to his idea, he finds it relatable with his first self-portrait. He is skeptical about using the idea set because it might not stand out. Making up his mind, Yatora pours turpentine into his sketchbook, which confuses some examinees.
