Assassin’s Creed: Mirage shows old parkour mechanic from AC: Unity

Ubisoft Bordeaux has done commendable work of bringing the Assassin’s Creed franchise back to its roots in the form of their brand-new title, Assassin’s Creed Mirage.

u/JealousAd8831 on Reddit noted that Basim in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage performs a parkour move similar to Assassin’s Creed Unity from 2014. In this move, Basim jumps off the edge of a building before grappling onto a horizontal bar and swinging up to grab another ledge.

This move debuted in 2014’s Assassin’s Creed Unity, set in France during the French Revolution. It gained quite some popularity because of its fluidity during the motion.

It was present in subsequent titles like Syndicate and the epic titles of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla. However, executing this mechanic in the larger maps of Egypt, Greece, and Nordic Regions didn’t prove easy.

As a result, Mirage’s 9th-Century Baghdad provided the perfect ground for executing this signature parkour move. It was earlier mentioned that Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Baghdad will have a similar size as Unity’s Paris.

It makes even more sense that this move can frequently be noticed in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage. As AC: Mirage initially started as a DLC to AC: Valhalla, many of Valhalla’s protagonist Eivor’s classic parkour moves were carried over.

However, with the revamped parkour mechanics in AC: Mirage, this move has the finesse of AC: Unity and the authentic feel from 2007’s AC: I.

One commenter mentioned that the animation is best suited for city environments with a density of ledges and bars to jump across. Since Mirage is the first city setting since Syndicate, the ease of triggering this move is increased.

Players can check out this cool-looking move in 9th-century Baghdad in Assassin’s Creed: Mirage, now on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.

About Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Bordeaux and published by Ubisoft. The game is the thirteenth primary installment in the Assassin’s Creed series and the successor to 2020’s Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. While its historical timeframe precedes that of Valhalla, its modern-day framing story succeeds Valhalla’s own.

Set in 9th-century Baghdad during the Islamic Golden Age—in particular during the Anarchy at Samarra—the story follows Basim Ibn Ishaq (a character first introduced in Valhalla), a street thief who joins the Hidden Ones to fight for peace and liberty against the Order of the Ancients,[b] who desire peace through control. The main narrative focuses on Basim’s internal struggle between his duties as a Hidden One and his desire to uncover his mysterious past.
