AC: Codename Red’s protagonist to be based on a historical figure

Ubisoft is running high on their success from their latest Assassin’s Creed title, AC: Mirage, released on October 5th. However, it must be kept in mind that there are as many as ten other Assassin’s Creed titles in some stage of development, set for a release over the coming years.

Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red is a title set in feudal Japan and is rumored to have two protagonists: a Samurai and a Shinobi. Insider Gaming Reports that the Samurai will be based on the real-life African Samurai called Yasuke, who served Oda Nobunaga, a prominent Samurai.

The reason Yasuke is so prominent is that he is the first non-Japanese Samurai in recorded history. Insider Gaming also gave an insight into the backstory that Yasuke might have in AC: Codename Red.

It is said that Yasuke in Assassins’ Creed: Codename Red is an enslaved person who was rescued and trained to be a samurai following a deadly attack on his slave ship.

While fans are getting the much-requested Assassin’s Creed title set in feudal Japan, the excitement is heightened by the fact that Ubisoft will be including a prominent historical figure.

Another fact that must be kept in mind is that Yasuke’s background and life are very obscured in historical texts, and as a result, there is not much concrete information about him.

This will allow Ubisoft to take creative liberty and transform the first African Samurai into a character that can serve a more exciting role in future Assassin’s Creed titles.

Given this is a rumor, the facts can change very soon. However, given a similar earlier story, there might be some element of truth in it. Until AC: Codename Red gets some concrete official information, players can explore the Golden Age of 9th-Century Baghdad in Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is out now.
