Episode 8 Recap
In the Cathedral, Delia confronts Myne, who is furious after learning that Dirk is going to be adopted by a nobleman. In this case, the protagonist does not lie to her about the adoption; what he lies about is claiming the idea came from her.
In any case, Delia is still angry that her baby brother will soon be living somewhere else. Myne assures her that even though the High Priest is desperately seeking a suitable adopter, any chance of Dirk being taken in by a noble is slim.
Her next statement explains that the pain of separation from Dirk’s family is something she is aware of; therefore, she will not let it happen to him. Delia also looks forward to spending more time with her brother.
Myne finds out her colleagues have appointed an agent for taking appointments in order to meet with them. In recognition of Heidi’s dedication to the development of improved ink, she funds her research, provided that production is not hindered in the process.
A strange event occurs at the east gate of the city later on when she goes to the market with Lutz and others. Myne and others make their way to safety.
As a result of his rage, the High Bishop physically injures one of his attendants when the cathedral employees keep things secret. As Myne waits at her house for five days, she manages to get back to the Cathedral. However, when she arrives, she learns something very troubling.
After learning that she may have to give up her younger brother, Delia meets with the High Bishop to explain why she is having this dilemma. As the High Bishop naturally recognizes that the boy is an asset, he tells his informant to trust him with her brother.
When a noble from a different region adopts a child, this rule does not apply even though the permission of the Lord is normally sought. That was the case in Dirk’s case, where he found a new family.
Though nervous about the adoption so far, Delia is surprisingly calm about it. Myne is intrigued by that, and she asks Delia for clarification. The attendant claims that the High Bishop has assured her that Dirk will remain with him until he is old enough to go on his own.
Consequently, she is able to visit him regularly in the Bishop’s special room, which absorbs the excess mana that causes Dirk to become sick.
