It looks like Josh Corman’s luck is never really in his favor. Apple has canceled the dramedy, Mr. Corman, after just one season and ten episodes.
The last episode of the show (as we now know) aired on October 1. And that’s on bidding goodbye to the teacher sinking deeper in anxiety as he struggles with his failed music career.
Lead actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt helmed the show like his baby. He was the creator, writer, director, and executive producer of Mr. Corman. But the decision from Apple comes through because of it not being as financially viable as its other summer comedy counterparts, reports Deadline.
Mr. Corman’s adventures received favorable reviews from viewers and critics alike but couldn’t drive as much performance and audience on the streaming platform. In comparison, comedies such as Ted Lasso, Mythic Quest, Schmigadoon! and Trying are all acclaimed and attract a significant number of viewers.
Their success can be seen with them either being renewed for another season or having high expectations to return.
However, it is a bit unheard of for Apple to cancel its original shows. They have only done it once before with the July dramedy Little Voice.
But this isn’t the end for Gordon-Levitt’s relation with Apple TV+. He will continue working on the animated children’s series Wolfboy and the Everything Factory voicing Professor Luxcraft. He is also the executive producer of the series.
As for Mr. Corman, the star cast includes Arturo Castro, Debra Winger, Shannon Woodward, Juno Temple, and more. It premiered on August 6, 2021, and the last episode on October 1, Friday.
While the news only broke out after the finale aired, it seems like Gordon-Levitt did know how good (or average) it has performed on the streaming platform. His posts on Twitter and Instagram as a final goodbye seem to hint at it as they’re all heart-tugging and appreciative of his team working hard behind the scenes.
A few hours ago, he also announced the news from his side, thanking fans.
Mr. Corman is currently available to stream on Apply TV+.
