God of War Might Get a Live-action Adaptation at Prime Video

The age of video game adaptations is upon us and the latest to get a live-action series is God of War at Amazon Prime Video.

As reported first by Deadline, Prime Video is currently in talks with PlayStation to adapt God of War as a live-action TV series.

Although representatives for Sony and Amazon Studios declined to comment, the report states that the series currently has Mark Fergus, Hawk Ostby, Rafe Judkins onboard the series’ team.

With upcoming adaptations like Peacock’s Twisted Metal, HBO’s The Last of Us, Netflix’s Resident Evil and Paramount+’s Halo, it was only a matter of time before Prime Video had a horse in the race.

Sony’s God of War was launched back in 2005 and the franchise has a total of seven games in its series. The ancient mythology-themed game has a massive following so the series is expected to be quite a big deal for game fans.

God of War’s premise follows an “ex-Spartan warrior Kratos and his perilous journey to exact revenge on the Ares, the Greek God of War, after killing his loved ones under the deity’s influence.

After becoming the ruthless God of War himself, Kratos finds himself constantly looking for a chance to change his fate.”

After the original trilogy concluded, Kratos’ next chapter included his encounters with the Norse gods in Scandanavia, leading to another adventure. This installment also won the Game of the Year award at the 2018 Game Awards.

Prime Video has been going big on adaptations recently. Although Amazon Studios is also developing Fallout and Mass Effect TV shows, the God of War might be its biggest video game adaptation yet.
