Everything We Know about the Cameos in Thor: Love and Thunder

After Avengers: Endgame, Chris Hemsworth once again reprises his role as Thor, the God of Thunder, for his fourth solo MCU film.

As the Guardians of the Galaxy and even the Olympian god Zeus make their appearance, Thor is surrounded by friends, foes, and new obstacles such as the returning Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), the new Asgardian king Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), and his trusted friend Korg (Taika Waititi).

Along with plot details and character specifics that MCU fans have been eagerly awaiting, early Thor: Love and Thunder reviews also give an indication of the movie’s overall quality. Based on 131 advance reviews, the movie currently has a 71% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Despite the fact that there are hundreds of reviews yet to be published and tallied if the numbers hold, Thor: Love & Thunder will be the third lowest-rated Thor movie, behind Thor (77%) and Thor: Ragnarok (93%), beating Thor: The Dark World (66%).

Although it will be a while before all the major details and hidden secrets become clear, early reviews have confirmed a few speculations about the plot of the movie.

A number of reviews have also discussed the film’s complex and sometimes manic tone, the successes and failures of new and returning characters, and perhaps most importantly, Christian Bale’s high-profile villain, Gorr the God Butcher.

While critics have been forbidden from spoiling most of Thor: Love & Thunder’s cameos, there are a few details to figure out.

The Rolling Stones’ review, specifically mentions “gratuitous glorified cameos”, seemingly referring to the Guardians of the Galaxy. There are, however, other reviews that confirm Thor 4 will feature several unexpected guests.

The Washington Post’s Ann Hornaday describes a “band of players performing a movie within a play within a movie,” which certainly sounds like a sequel to Matt Damon’s Loki play from Thor: Ragnarok.

Chris Hemsworth’s wife Elsa Pataky and one of his sons are also confirmed to appear in the movie, along with “a pretty famous comedienne playing Cate Blanchett’s role from Ragnarok.”

There was already confirmation that Damon would reprise his role as Loki, as well as Melissa McCarthy appearing in the film at some point, possibly spoofing Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death.

While many big names remain shrouded in mystery, the wait is almost over for fans, as the movie releases in theaters this Friday.

About Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is a MCU movie and the fourth installation in the Thor series. It is directed by Ragnarok’s director, Taika Waititi, and will show Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Dr. Jane Foster.

The movie will be based on The Mighty Thor comics in which Thor Odinson loses the ability to lift Mjolnir, and Jane Foster takes on the role of Mighty Thor. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor teams up with The Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time, leaving Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. But Thor returns to team up with Korg, Valkyrie and Jane’s Mighty Thor to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) – before he takes out all the gods in existence.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson return for Watiti’s second go, while Russell Crowe and Natalie Portaman join Taika’s project for the first time. The movie is out on July 8, 2022.
