Chris Cocks, Wizards of the Coast’s president, said in late 2019 that seven or eight games based on Dungeons & Dragons are in the works. One such will be a big-budget title that is to be developed by Hidden Path Entertainment.
Developers at Hidden Path Entertainment took to Twitter on March 2 to announce the development of a third-person, open-world fantasy RPG.
The tweet further read that the upcoming game will take inspiration from the legendary Dungeons & Dragons franchise.
The company is said to be hiring for various positions like:
- Graphics Programmer
- Lead Graphics Programmer
- Senior Technical Artist
- Writer
Currently, we do know of two games that have taken inspiration from the legendary D&D franchise. They are Baldur’s Gate 3, which was out for Early Access back in October, and the upcoming co-op action RPG, Dark Alliance.
I wouldn’t blame anyone for having high expectations from this upcoming game. Hidden Path Entertainment flaunts a rich CV that incorporates the likes of Raccoon Lagoon, Defense Grid 2, and Brass Titles. The studio does have a reputation for creating quality stuff, and I expect this D&D game to be just as good (I wouldn’t mind better!).
Moreover, Whitney “Strix” Beltràn, the well-known writer, will also be working on the D&D game as a project narrative director. She has written for games like State of Decay 2 and the award-winning tabletop game Bluebeard’s Bride.
Besides this, not an awful lot is known about this ambitious upcoming game.
