A Hunter’s Gear – Crafting Bow And Arrows in RuneScape: Dragonwilds

Your first challenge from the Wise Old Man in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is to hunt a deer.

However, deers are sharp prey and can flee swiftly on their thin legs. So, in a battle of speed, a bow is your best bet to hunt them down.

But the Old Man won’t tell you how to make one, and so we’re here at your rescue.

As you progress through the main questline, you’ll eventually reach a point where the Wise Old Man requests a set of antlers so he can perform a locator spell.

The only way to get antlers in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is by hunting deer. While you can take one down with a melee weapon, it’s much easier—and far more efficient—once you’ve crafted a bow.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to craft a bow and arrows in RuneScape: Dragonwilds.

  • Step 1: Build a Spinning Wheel using 12x Ash Logs, 4x Flax, and 2x Stone.
  • Step 2: Craft a Bow using 12x Ash Logs and 3x Coarse Thread.
  • Step 3: Craft Arrows using 1x Ash log, 1x Feather, and 1x stone or small animal fang.

To craft a bow in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, the first thing you’ll need is a spinning wheel. For that, collect the following materials:

  • 12x Ash Logs
  • 4x Flax
  • 2x Stone

Finding ash logs and stone should be fairly straightforward, but flax might be trickier if you haven’t been keeping an eye out. It’s a blue-flowered plant that grows in Bramblemead Valley and Temple Woods, or even near ponds.

It’s best to place it inside your base, since it won’t function properly without a roof overhead. With the wheel set up, simply insert some flax or coarse animal fur and let it work.

Once you produce your first piece of coarse thread, you’ll automatically unlock a list of weapons and armor recipes at the crafting table, including the one for a bow.

While the spinning wheel is used to spin flax into thread, you’ll need a crafting table to assemble the bow. To craft an Ash Shortbow, collect the following materials:

  • 12 x Ash logs
  • 3 x Coarse thread

A bow isn’t much use without something to fire, and in RuneScape: Dragonwilds, you’ve got two main types of arrows to work with: Stone Arrows and Fang Arrows.

Stone Arrows are easier to make and ideal for the early game. They may not hit as hard, but they’re great for basic hunting and getting started.

To craft Stone Arrows, you’ll need:

  • 1× Feather
  • 1× Ash log
  • 1× Stone

Fang Arrows are better for higher damage, especially since Bramblemead is crawling with giant rats and chickens that you can hunt for materials.

For each batch of Fang Arrows, you’ll need:

  • 1x Feather
  • 1x Ash log
  • 1x Small animal fang

Feathers can be obtained from chickens or bird nests.

  • Chickens are commonly found in places like Bramblemead Valley, Temple Woods, and even near the Wise Old Man’s broken tower—but be prepared, as they’ll defend themselves.
  • Bird nests, on the other hand, occasionally fall from trees while chopping them down, but only if your Woodcutting skill is high enough.

For small animal fangs, hunt creatures like Giant Rats, which are abundant in early-game areas. You’ll have an easier time spotting them at night due to their glowing eyes.

  • Head back to your crafting table and check under the ammo tab to craft your arrows once you’ve gathered the required materials.
  • You’ll get 33 arrows per craft, so preparing 3 to 5 sets will load you up with more than enough arrows for a while.
  • With your new bow equipped, you can hunt the deer from a distance without spooking your prey and chasing it across all of Ashenfall.

And that’s everything you need to know to craft your first bow and arrows in RuneScape: Dragonwilds. Whether you go for power or convenience, you’ll be prepared to face whatever the wilds throw at you.
