Episode 2 of The Summer Hikaru Died, titled “Suspicion”, started with Yoshiki and “Hikaru”, along with 3 other friends, doing a test of courage. One of Yoshiki’s friends found a certain part of the village to be incredibly eerie, so the group decided to check the spot, and it turned out that there was nothing there. On their way back, Yoshiki saw a creepy figure walking towards him from the forest. He was incredibly creeped out, but Hikaru grabbed the “ghost”, and absorbed it.

Yoshiki wanted to know how Hikaru’s body worked, if he could let other stuff inside, so Hikaru took Yoshiki’s hand and put it into the slit in his chest. Yoshiki described the sensation to be like “touching cold marinated meat”. This scene was beyond just creepy, so we recommend that you watch it on your own, with your doors closed.

Yoshiki was even more bothered than everything that had happened. Hikaru’s consuming the spirit near the mountains reinforced the reality that “Hikaru” wasn’t actually Hikaru, but his unwillingness to let go had him in a tough spot. It also seemed as if Yoshiki liked Hikaru, but it is still too soon to jump to conclusions. While Yoshiki felt conflicted, he happened to meet a lady in his village who claimed to be able to see things others can’t.

The lady told Yoshiki that he was getting involved with something dangerous, and if he didn’t get away from it, he would fuse with it. Although Yoshiki didn’t understand first, the woman told him that she knew that the malice in the mountains had descended, and was beside Yoshiki. She gave him her contact information, as asked him to contact her if he ever needed help.

3. Speculation of Episode 3 of The Summer Hikaru Died

The detective, Tanaka, who came to investigate the crime scene, realised that the situation was way worse than the villagers thought it was. After relocating to a safe shrine, he told the elder that the “thing” in the mountains had left the mountains and somehow found a way to hide among the humans. The elders said the reason was that the Indou family’s ritual failed, but Tanaka has some other ideas.

Episode 3 will likely show Tanaka searching for more hints to find the creature living in the mountains. Meanwhile, Yoshiki may get pushed more by “Hikaru”. Since “Hikaru” isn’t human, his reasoning and conscience are far from humane, and Yoshiki will likely have to suffer because of this difference.
