2. Recap of Episode 22 of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
The latest episode of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 started with Maomao having a conversation with Shisui, from which Maomao realised that Shisui planned on setting everything right on her end by taking responsibility for her family’s actions as the daughter of Shishou. This also meant that she had no intention of coming back alive. Maomao knew this didn’t concern her, but couldn’t help but ask Shisui to reconsider her choice, but her will was as hard as stone.
Meanwhile, we got to see the pathetic state of the ruler Shishou, who did not have the guts to say a word to retaliate against his corrupt wife, who does nothing but torture his children and hosts a disgusting house of prostitution with respectable mothers and wives in her chamber. As Shishou wallowed in his own self-pity, Shisui walked into her mother’s chambers and opened a cabinet to find Suieri, who had been abused and trapped inside.
It was only at this point that Shishou understood just how much abuse her daughters had gone through because of Shenmei. Loulan (I’ll refer to her as Loulan instead of Shisui, considering her status) then asked her father to take responsibility in the final moments. It would seem Shishou had at least a shred of shame because he agreed with her, and went on his way.
Meanwhile, Jinshi was commanding the army with his official title of the Moon Prince, and he had Lakhan’s plan to back him up. The bombing done by the imperial army caused an avalanche that buried the state’s firearms, which sealed their options for fighting back. Jinshi then infiltrated the fortress and met Maomao, at which point Maomao learnt his true identity. This was very anticlimactic considering the buildup they made for this event. Regardless, Maomao knew she had to do the job Shisui had entrusted her with, so she disobeyed Jinshi’s order and wandered into the fortress.
3. What To Expect In Episode 23 of The Apothecary Diaries Season 2
The upcoming episode of the Apothecary Diaries is going to be wild. We will see Shishou being confronted by Jinshi and the whole imperial army, where we’ll also see what Shishou’s idea of “taking responsibility” is. We can expect Shishou to be killed as he is a traitor of the empire, but since Loulan is officially the daughter of the late emperor (don’t be confused, Suieri is the actual daughter of the late emperor, but her name was given to Shisui).
Meanwhile, Maomao does have some involvement here, too, but this isn’t all that clear as far as the story has gone. Regardless, the next episode will feature a lot of blood spillage and a lot of drama, so stay tuned till its release.
