2. Recap of Chapter 126 of Kaiju No. 8

Chapter 126 of Kaiju No. 8 dives right back into the chaos, opening with Mina Ashiro firing her massive Keraunos cannon at the monstrous Meireki. But just when it looks like she might turn the tide, Meireki fires back with its own energy beam, completely shutting down her attack.

Even as Mina keeps firing, trying to force a breakthrough, it becomes clear she’s running out of options and power. That’s when Kikoru Shinomiya drops into the scene, literally. She lands right on top of Meireki, barely holding on with just over half her usual combat strength. But in a moment of raw emotion and resolve, she pushes herself far past her limits.

Fueled by a vision of her mother and a memory of her father, she channels nearly all her remaining strength into one final, devastating strike. It works. She cracks through Meireki’s defenses and exposes its core. With nothing left, Kikoru falls, but not before calling out to Kafka Hibino to end it.

The chapter closes with Kafka standing face to face with the monster’s core, powering up for what could be the final blow. It’s a powerful moment, but fans can’t help noticing Reno Ichikawa is still nowhere to be seen. For a character who’s meant to be one of the main players, his absence in this battle is starting to feel more than a little unfair.

3. Speculation of Chapter 127 of Kaiju No. 8

With Kafka ready to land a final blow on Meireki’s core, chapter 127 could go one of two ways. The first is the straightforward route where Kafka pulls it off, the core is destroyed, and maybe we get a brief moment where he connects with Meireki’s mind. That could give us some final bits of lore or insight into No. 9’s motives before things wrap up.

But honestly, the more likely outcome is that something gets in the way. This fight has had a lot of twists, and with Reno Ichikawa still missing from the action, it feels like there’s more to come. If Kafka’s attack doesn’t finish the job, it might set the stage for Reno to finally show up and play a key role, which would make sense given how quiet he’s been during such a major battle.

Either way, chapter 127 is probably not the end just yet. Expect one more hurdle before the finish line.
