Elden Ring Nightreign has just been released, and it has certainly met the expectations of players. Among the total of eight playable “Nightfarer” characters, each offers a unique action RPG playstyle. Notably, the Duchess stands out as the character most players are eager to try, thanks to her Assassin playstyle and abilities.
However, unlike the network test for Elden Ring Nightreign, where she was available from the start, the Duchess is one of two characters you need to unlock in the full game. The good news is that acquiring the Duchess is one of the first tasks you’ll face as you progress through Nightreign.
1. How to get the Duchess in Elden Ring Nightreign?
Players can get the Duchess by following these steps in Elden Ring Nightreign-
- Participate in the Tricephalos Expedition runs using any character. Continue these runs until you obtain a reward item called The Old Pocketwatch.
- After acquiring The Old Pocketwatch, go back to the Roundtable Hold.
- Locate the Priestess NPC dressed in a white cloak. Choose the option to give her The Old Pocketwatch. This action will trigger a short cutscene introducing the Duchess.
- Following the cutscene, the Duchess class becomes a permanent option for your character selection.
Unlocking The Duchess makes her a part of the Nightfarers in the Roundtable and turns her into a regular NPC. You can talk to her like other characters, and her dialog is brief, just like the others.
When needed for the story or progression, she’ll wear the cloak again and act as Priestess, participating in important character stories or cutscenes during the campaign. Once she’s unlocked, you can choose her as a Nightfarer for Expeditions at any time.
2. Duchess Class Overview
Class Type: Dexterity / Stealth
Starting Weapon: Gilded Dagger (Bleed build-up)
Armor: Light, allowing quick rolls and silent movement
Unique Skill: Restage – Damages enemies by re-creating the memory of recent nearby events. Phantoms affected by Restage reflect damage back to their original hosts.
Passive Ability: Magnificent Pose – Reduces stamina cost and grants an extra dodge chain when evading.
The Duchess is a fast and skilled assassin. She can dodge attacks easily, even performing two dodges in a row. Her high Dexterity and Intelligence make her effective with small, quick weapons and sorcery magic. If you find a dagger that does Magic damage, it can be very powerful.
Her Restage skill lets her make an enemy take damage they’ve just suffered again. This skill is especially useful after critical hits or strong attacks from teammates. Her Finale Ultimate Art gives the whole team invisibility for a short time. This allows the team to heal, revive allies, or set up backstabs and big attack combos.

Elden Ring Nightreign, developed by FromSoftware and published by BANDAI NAMCO Entertainment, is an upcoming standalone survival game within the Elden Ring universe. It is designed to offer a new gaming experience complete with iconic elements of Elden Ring. Nightreign also features 3-person co-op, giving you a better chance to take on the vicious evils lurking in the darkness.
