Dandadan is back. After grabbing attention in 2024 with its mix of ghosts, aliens, and awkward teenage crushes, the anime returns this July with its second season. The new episodes bring darker turns, deeper emotional tension, and one of the most disturbing antagonists the series has introduced so far.
When and Where Dandadan Season 2 Premieres
Season 2 starts airing in Japan on July 3, 2025, on MBS’ Super Animeism TURBO block. For viewers outside Japan, it will be available to stream weekly on Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Hulu starting the same day.
Before the season kicks off, there’s a special preview film titled “Dandadan: Evil Eye” coming to U.S. theaters on June 6. It includes the first three episodes, along with some behind-the-scenes material and early character highlights.
What’s Dandadan All About?
Adapted from Yukinobu Tatsu’s manga, Dandadan follows two high schoolers, Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura (nicknamed “Okarun”), who accidentally get involved in a world of spirits, aliens, cursed objects, and interdimensional chaos.
They’re joined by a rotating cast of strange allies and even stranger enemies. Most famously, there’s Turbo Granny, a foul-mouthed ghost who somehow ends up helping more than hurting. Beneath the madness is a story about friendship, loyalty, and coming of age under very weird circumstances.
Where Season 1 Left Us
After a wild ride of ghosts, aliens, and teenage chaos, Dandadan ends with Momo, Okarun, and Jiji visiting a creepy house in Jiji’s hometown. What starts off like a quirky road trip quickly gets tense as Okarun’s jealousy simmers, Momo disappears for a soak, and the boys stumble into something way more cursed than expected.
The final scene leaves Momo surrounded by unknown enemies, and the haunted house just beginning to show its true face. It’s not a clean wrap-up, more like the calm before something much worse.
What’s Coming in Season 2?
Season 2 picks up right after the end of Season 1 and adapts chapters 34 to around 62 of the manga. It opens with the Cursed House Arc, where Momo, Okarun, and their friend Jin Enjoji (Jiji) head to Jin’s family home in Daija Town. The town has a history of misfortune, and Jin’s family seems to be at the center of it. What starts as a low-key trip turns into something much more sinister as they dig into the past.
This leads straight into the Evil Eye Arc, which brings in one of the story’s most intense characters yet. Jin becomes possessed by an ancient spirit, a boy who died a violent death centuries ago, and his trauma begins bleeding into the present. Unlike past threats, this one isn’t just creepy or dangerous. It’s personal.
The New Story Arcs: Cursed House and Evil Eye
Season 2 is set to adapt chapters 34 to at least 62 of the manga, beginning with the Cursed House Arc before moving into the bone-chilling Evil Eye Arc.
The Cursed House arc deepens the supernatural mystery, focusing on Momo, Okarun, and their friend Jin Enjoji (Jiji) as they investigate Jin’s ancestral home in Daija Town. It’s a village plagued by curses, sinister landlords, and spiritual decay. Haunted by a malevolent force, Jin has lived a life of suffering, and now the truth about his curse will finally come to light.
This leads into the Evil Eye arc, where Dandadan introduces its scariest antagonist yet. A tortured spirit once human, now consumed by vengeance. Unlike previous villains, the Evil Eye is not evil for the sake of being evil. He was a young boy burned alive in a horrifying ritual, and his pain and rage form the heart of Season 2’s emotional core.
Who Is the Evil Eye?
The Evil Eye is a former human, burned alive in a ritual by his own village, who now exists as a vengeful spirit. In the trailer, we get a glimpse of his final moments: bound to a stake, watching lava flow toward him.
Now he haunts Jin from the inside, feeding off his vulnerability. Unlike earlier villains, the Evil Eye is more than a monster. He’s a reminder that even the scariest threats come from somewhere real.
Even Turbo Granny, usually the group’s source of backup and blunt commentary, is out of her depth with this one. The spirit’s grip on Jin is total, and his rage is escalating fast.
Trailer and Key Visual
Season 2 leans harder into horror, with distorted imagery, flickering lights, and sharp transitions between emotional flashbacks and chaotic battles. The key visual shows Jin caught between himself and the Evil Eye, surrounded by fire and cult symbols.
Two trailers highlight the shift. One focuses on friendship and tension, the other on supernatural fights and spiritual dread. The opening theme is loud and frantic, while the ending theme feels tired and introspective, both matching the season’s mood.
What Else Might Be Covered?
The season’s main focus is the Evil Eye storyline, but there are hints in the trailer that we’ll get pieces of the next arc, sometimes called the Kaiju Arc. It involves nanoskin suits, bizarre alien logic, and even more unhinged enemies.
There’s a scene in the trailer with an enormous cello smashing through buildings. If that’s what it looks like, we’re already getting glimpses of what’s coming next.
Should You Watch Dandadan Season 2?
If you liked Season 1, there’s no reason to skip this one. The pacing picks up, the stakes get more personal, and the characters start growing up, sometimes painfully. If you’re into stories where horror meets comedy and action meets emotional fallout, this season goes deeper on all fronts.
Catch the U.S. preview film on June 6 if you want an early look, or start fresh on July 3 with the weekly episodes. Either way, it’s about to get wild.
