Anime Coming Soon The God of High School Upcoming Anime Seasons Webtoons

Will There be a The God of High School Season 2?

The God of High School or GOH is a South Korean webtoon written and illustrated by Park Yongje.

This action-packed series has been serialised on Line Webtoon since 2011. What makes it so popular amongst the readers is that GOH has the coolest, bloodiest, and most astounding fights on the platform.

Watching someone else fight makes your heart pump and makes you root for the protagonist. GOH is that anime where fighting is everything, and being passive won’t save you.

But will this story about the taekwondo specialist, Jin Mori, return to the silver screen after the animation story ends in three weeks?

1. Release Date

While there is no doubt regarding the continuation of GOH, the issue lies with Season 2’s production. GOH Season 2 is expected to come out in late 2021, if not later.

The God of High School is one of the webtoons to be included in the Crunchyroll Originals, the second one after the Tower of God.

Tower of God, like GOH, rose in popularity ranks largely due to lack of competition, since big-name anime titles were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

But if GOH Season 2 tries to make a comeback anywhere before Winter 2021, it would be met with fierce competition from anime like Reincarnated as a Slime, The Promised Neverland, and Dr. Stone, among others.

II. Possibility of Season 2

Fans know that Season 1 of the anime ‘The God of High School’ is just the beginning of a big story, veiled under high school students’ battle. The audience will experience unpredictable plot twists, battle scenes, and an unexpected end in the upcoming arcs.

The reason why GOH anime is well-liked by the audience is because of its animation, and the studio behind it is MAPPA.

MAPPA has been churning out impressive anime over the years, and in 2020 it will release Jujutsu Kaisen on October 3, and Taiso Samurai on October 11.

Despite the busy schedule, the good news is that the studio has plenty of source material to work with for GOH Season 2.

What are the opinions of fans about getting a sequel? Is the anime good enough to get one?

2. Anime: Disappointment or Not?

The first thing viewers notice is the fluid animation of the anime from the get-go.

MAPPA’s fluid animation in the everyday-life scenes, the martial art action sequences, and the battle royale’s cinematography were amazing. Anime-only fans are hooked to their seats, looking forward to more head-bashing fights.

The animators have given their best in creating completely believable body movements from the big charyeok moves to the conniving hand-to-hand combat.

Alas, every pro comes with a con. Not every fan was happy with the anime; to be precise, not every webtoon-reader fan was happy.

They don’t have any problem with the animation; they agree that the animation is first class. The problem comes with the script and the major plot changes that took place in these episodes.

According to the production team, the studio has been adapting six or more chapters per episode. The first six episodes alone were based on the first 40 chapters of the webtoon!!

The team was forced to skip many details, ignore certain interesting sub-plots, and stray away from source material to make the anime more concise and compact.

The anime would be a perfect package with a bow on top to anyone new to the series. But to the webtoon purists, it is an itch unable to be scratched.

Some may openly criticize the anime as a bad adaptation, but many recognize it as a retelling, an adaptation in its form.

Even with the plots’ changes, some webtoon readers absolutely loved every single second of the episodes.

Episode 13 might leave the audience on a cliff-hanger, teasing them about what is to come. Let’s see what the upcoming season will bring us.

3. Season 2: Sage Realm Arc

I. Expected Plot

Looking at how the producers are adapting the webtoon volumes, we can assume that Episode 13 finishes by adapting the ‘God’s Arrival Arc,’ wrapping up chapter 112 in the process.

There is a mini-arc consisting of Jin Taejin’s back story. But we can consider it to be made into an OVA, and not an entire season.

Spoilers ahead for the upcoming arc, which would be adapted in Season 2.

(At the end of the last arc, it was revealed that the God of High School Tournament incident was blamed on Park Mujin. His entire black, murky history filled with corruption and bad deeds were unearthed.

The organization Nox stepped forward during the country’s weakest economic state and donated to the cities to regain their standing.

When Park Mujin accused Nox of being behind the terrorist attacks, the public turned on him. Thus, he had to leave the country but was captured after a traitor turned on him.

Nox is now recruiting new members, while the judges and participants of GOH are wanted for their contribution to the terror attacks.)

Let’s see if there’s any difference in the visuals.

II. Key Visuals

The sequel remains unannounced by the creator and the studio. But we are hopeful that Season 2 gets the green light as soon as possible.

We know for sure that the Sage Realm arc would be adapted in the next season.

The cover features Jin Mori after he awakens to his powers as the Monkey King Jaecheondaesong.

He has blue eyes instead of his usual black pupils and yellow crosses. He also has the Loop of Binding around his head.

Now, what could that possibly mean, hmm?

III. Upcoming Characters

Mihu is the False Monkey King that Jin Mori, Yoo Mira, and Han Daewi encounter in the Sage Realm. He carries with him a gourd harboring Jin Mori’s lost memories.

King Uma

Uma is the king of Minotaurs. She is against Nox and its members for going against her friends.

The main antagonist of the arc, we are explained their desire for world domination. They also manipulate the public by showcasing as a ‘good company.’

Lee Sujin

A Bishop in the Nox’s hierarchy who uses charyeok Pandora, Lee Sujin is one of the two Keys. She wants revenge on Jin Taejin and the grudge was carried over to Jin Mori.

The charyeok of Park Ilpyo which is in the form of a Nine-Tailed Guardian. It changes the appearance of the user by giving them white hair, fox-like eyes, and fox tails made of flames.

Bishop Byron

One of the five Bishops of Nox, he uses the charyeok Greed, which is completely fused with his body. So even if his human vessel dies, he can recreate it by eating other beings.

4. Fan Expectations

Expectations of the next three episodes of GOH are sky-high.

Assuming they will make some plot changes, but if they mess up the real deal *cough* Monkey King Reveal *cough*, the anime would have anti-fans instead.

The director, producer, and creator have worked hard on this changed plot. Park Yongje himself agreed to these changes and is happy with the result.

The above video shows what went through their minds while creating GOH. The anime directors and writers were given the freedom to express new ideas, and Park Yongje encouraged them to do so!

It is no wonder that the animation, music scores, and the plot all came together. The OST keeps increasing the mood and brings the battle to an ultimate climax.

Webtoon fans have no choice but to accept this reality. However, we agree with some vital points they make.

The upcoming season should include some backstory on the side characters and the sub-plots; it would be a shame if such material went to waste again.

Let’s recollect the past episodes of this interesting action anime.

5. Recap

Jin Mori is a self-proclaimed strongest high schooler, who was invited to participate in the tournament called God of High School. He meets Yoo Mira, and Han Daewi on the way to GOH, the tournament where one can use any means necessary to win.

Meanwhile, Nox is a notorious group that attacked Mori’s grandfather as the first step towards their goal, followed by their plan of ambushing GOH tournament to find the Key. In response, Park Mujin summons The Six.

Mori receives a photograph of a bound Taejin on the morning of semi-finals making him miss out on GOH. Consequently, as the only person on the team allowed to fight, Mira fights and awakens her charyeok powers within her wooden sword.

Mori meets doppelganger user, Long instead of Taejin in the warehouse. In anger, Mori defeats him and wins against his puppets at GOH in his finals match later.

Mori and Ilpyo fight each other in the finals, but Ilpyo mentors him throughout the fight fulfilling his promise with Taejin. Outside, the Sword of God had been stopped by one of The Six.
