Will Luffy defeat Kaido? How will he defeat him? Will Luffy become stronger?

Chapter 984 of One Piece was released recently, and it continued building up to the Onigashima War.

While minor squabbles have already happened, a full-scale war between the alliance of Big Mom & the Beast Pirates and the Rebellion Army has not yet begun.

After reading some theories online, I wondered about the aftermath of this war, and a question popped into my head – Who will defeat Kaido? Is it going to be Luffy? So here is a breakdown of what I expect from the Onigashima War and Kaido’s defeat.

While Luffy will have a substantial role to play in Kaido’s defeat, he will not be the (only) person to land the last blow on Kaido.

It is evident that Luffy is nowhere near Yonko level, and even after the short training session, there is no chance that anyone in the Rebellion Army can defeat Kaido in a 1v1.

It is possible that after a long fight, the three major players involved in this war – Kid, Luffy & Law, will land a combined final attack to defeat Kaido.

1. Luffy’s Current Strength

I. Gear 4

Luffy recently had a 1v1 against Katakuri, the First Commander of the Big Mom Pirates. While it is tough to consider it a victory, the fight showed us how strong Luffy has become since the time skip.

Gear 4: Snakeman is likely the final form for Gear 4, and we saw how powerful it could be with Luffy’s back against the wall. But is it strong enough to take down a Yonko? Not by a long shot.

II. Kaido K.O’d Luffy

During the start of Wano, Kaido came searching for Luffy, and they “fought.” Luffy was defeated in a single attack – Thunder Bagua, similar to how Big Mom swatted him down in a single attack.

This scene was purposefully put into the story to show the immense power gap between Luffy and a Yonko. It is evident that Kaido cannot be taken down by him in a 1v1.

III. Haki Training

While in the Udon Prison, Luffy was shackled with Sea Prism Stone to drain him of his power. In this form, he exercised his body by doing the grunt work for the Prison.

After this, he met Hyogoro The Flower, who taught him the basics of Ryou for a week. Luffy is undoubtedly stronger than before, but a week’s worth of training is not enough to take down a Yonko.

2. Kaido’s Defeat

I. Matchups

Before we begin to wonder who lands the final blow, we need to figure out the characters who will fight Kaido.

Kaido

Here are some of the matchups which are possible:

  • Black Maria & Ulti vs Robin & Nami (Interchangeable)
  • X Drake and Hawkins vs. Remaining Tobi Roppo
  • Kin’emon, Raizo & Momonosuke vs. Orochi & Kanjuro
  • Denjiro, Izo & Kiku vs. Oniwabanshu
  • Marco vs. Big Mom
  • Nekomamushi & Inuarashi vs. Jack
  • Sanji vs. Queen
  • Zoro vs. King
  • Luffy, Kid & Law vs Kaido

There can be changes to this list depending on how people switch sides, and Zoro will play a role in Kaido’s defeat since he has Enma, but the three supernovas will play the most significant part in Kaido’s defeat.

3. Final Battle

Kaido is considered the strongest creature alive, and it is said that he cannot lose a 1v1. Therefore, Kaido will be up against three key players – Kid, Law & Luffy.

Hopefully, these three supernovas will be enough to take down Kaido’s tyrannical rule. I think the final blow on Kaido will be a combined attack from the trio.

Similar to how Roger & Whitebeard were rivals, the new generation is bound to have one too, which is why during the Sabaody arc, Kid and Luffy were set up as such.

Luffy has done feats incredible enough to earn him a bounty of over a Billion Berries. However, Kid & Law have much smaller bounties in comparison.

If Luffy lands the final blow, the credit will be given to him, and the rivalry wouldn’t make sense anymore, which is why it’s probable that all three will land the final blow.

4. The Ultimate Goal – King of The Pirates

Luffy has set out to become the King of the Pirates, and the series would not make much sense if he doesn’t attain that goal.

To be the freest & the most wanted man on the planet, Luffy would also have to be the strongest. While he is not as strong as Kaido (let’s be real, Luffy is a teenager & Kaido is 50-year-old Yonko), Luffy will eventually surpass everyone.

Luffy will not be stronger than Kaido at the end of this arc. However, he will be the strongest person at the end of this series.

5. About One Piece
