Why is Sukuna Interested in Megumi? Why Does he want Megumi? Explained

Gege Akutami had always hinted at Sukuna’s curiosity toward Megumi since the beginning of Jujutsu Kaisen.

Now that Sukuna has finally possessed Megumi in chapter 213 of the Manga, we discover his true motive for doing just that.

Why Is Sukuna Interested In Megumi?

Later in the story it’s been revealed that Sukuna always displayed interest in Megumi with the hopes of taking over his body and technique due to his failure of overtaking Itadori’s.

Ryomen Sukuna was interested in Megumi Fushigoro specifically because of his Ten Shadows Technique. It had been hinted throughout the anime and manga that Sukuna wishes for Megumi to perfect his technique.

How did Sukuna Manage to get Control of Megumi’s Body?

Sukuna took over Megumi’s body when the pact/contract between Sukuna and Itadori was activated in chapter 213 of the Manga.

Why is Sukuna interested in Megumi? What does he want with him?
Sukuna in Control of Megumi’s Body

According to the binding vow, Sukuna can do whatever he wants within that one minute except harming anyone. But Yuji being an idiot, didn’t include himself in the vow.

This enables Sukuna to tear off Yuji’s little finger after concentrating all his conscience/soul and powers into it, force-feeding it to Megumi, and finally, getting control of his body.

Even before this scene, it was mentioned that Sukuna did not care for anyone except Fushiguro, and the reason for this is theorized below.

Sukuna to Become Megumi’s Shikigami!

Sukuna rejoiced when Itadori first consumed his finger and believed that being alive in a fleshly body was something a cursed spirit body could not compare to.

However, Yuji’s self-control exceeds his expectations, leading to Sukuna becoming imprisoned in his body.

Now he is faced with the constant threat of Yuji devouring his fingers and suppressing him once and for all.

Sukuna wants to use Megumi in his revival process to gain true freedom. He also tells his devoted follower Uraume about his waking up at Shibuya.

Megumi’s cursed technique is the Ten Shadows Technique of the Zenin Clan that allows him to manifest up to 10 Shikigami, each with unique abilities.

Once a Shikigami is destroyed, its cursed energy is inherited by the other remaining Shikigami, thus making them far more potent than before.

In this case, the last standing Shikigami would be the strongest and most capable, wouldn’t it?

It is theorized that Sukuna wants to utilize this very ability of Megumi to create a new body.

By getting into a contract with Megumi, thus becoming his new Shikigami, all Sukuna will have to do is destroy the other Shikigami and escape Fushiguro’s control, thus gaining a full body.

However, this will only be possible if the shadow technique is perfected and, maybe, even upgraded to something entirely new. This would also explain Sukuna’s interest in keeping Megumi alive.

What is Sukuna’s True Cursed Technique?

While the above theory is a bit far-fetched, this one has more noticeable clues, making it more grounded in reality anime.

Sukuna is the King of Curses and the most vital cursed spirit to date; however, there’s little known about his powers.

Initially, it was assumed that Sukuna’s cursed technique was related to cleaving; however, during the fight against Jogo, he suddenly unleashed fire attacks by claiming that he would fight using the latter’s unique ability.

This speculation is further solidified when we examine Sukuna’s domain expansion technique, Malevolent Shrine.

As the name suggests, the shrine is believed to be where Sukuna can store the techniques he has stolen from the cursed spirits and sorcerers.

His interest in Megumi, or his Ten Shadows Technique, might also be due to his desire to copy and add it to his skills.

No matter what, while Sukuna’s strength remains hidden, there’s no doubt regarding his maddening power.

Some fans even jokingly compare him to Hisoka, minus the pervertedness, as there’s no particular reason a character this strong would have any interest in Megumi other than to see him grow into a fascinating opponent.

We can only wait without Akutami Sensei clearing our doubts with another shocking reveal. And theorize. What do you guys think the reason is? Let us know in the comments below.

Will Megumi manage to get his body back?

In Jujutsu Kaisen, there is a possibility that Megumi Fushiguro will manage to regain control of his body after being possessed by Sukuna.

Megumi has consistently demonstrated strong determination and willpower throughout the series, which could play a significant role in his ability to resist Sukuna’s influence and reclaim his autonomy.

Additionally, the power of friendship and allies in the Jujutsu Kaisen universe may come into play, with characters like Yuji Itadori and other Jujutsu sorcerers joining forces to help Megumi break free from Sukuna’s possession.

But most importantly, the reason behind my thinking that Megumi will certainly get his body back is due to the true hidden power that protects Megumi from harm’s way, i.e., the power of plot armor !!
