Why Did Deku Leave U.A.? Is He a Villain Now?

My Hero Academia took a huge turn in Chapter 306 when Deku decided to leave U.A. for good. However, this has caused quite an uproar among the fans who are astonished by this twist which seems to have appeared out of nowhere.

Fans are wondering about Deku’s reasons for leaving the hero academy which he so desperately wanted to be a part of. Fans are also curious about his destination now that he ain’t attending high school!

Let me elaborate on that and tell you more in detail about the reason behind Deku’s decision and his current whereabouts!

Deku decided become bait to lure Shigaraki. He, however, did not want to put his friends in danger and decided to leave U.A. for good. After leaving U.A, Deku helped as many civilians as possible and did not become a rogue villain.

What sent Deku over the edge?

Before we can understand the intentions of Deku, we need a little context behind the entire situation. During the Paranormal Liberation Arc, things changed drastically in the series.

While MHA always had a serious tone, it always depicted hope. However, the Paranormal Liberation arc was dark and the situation looked hopeless! Multiple heroes and villains suffered severe casualties along with several innocent civilians.

All of these events were broadcasted by Skeptic, live on television. This caused the trust of the civilians to crumble and the reputation of hero society is at an all-time low!

Was there any other way?

Deku, who witnessed this chaos and mass destruction, decided that he wanted to save everyone. He knew the only way to lure out Shigaraki was himself and he needed to become the bait.

This was the only way they could reduce collateral damage in getting hold of the villains. Together with Endeavor and All Might, Deku sketched this bold plan to use himself to fish out the villains.

However, this plan created a certain danger to those around him, and Deku being Deku could never let that happen. He decided to leave the U.A. and become a vagabond so he can protect his dear friends and family.

He writes them all individual letters telling them about One for All and how he is the ninth wielder of the power. He also tells them that he is leaving as Shigaraki and All For One will start looking for him and he must leave to safeguard them. He also tells them that he is leaving to become the greatest hero!

Did Deku become a vigilante after leaving U.A.?

Deku did not become a villain after leaving U.A. and he never intended to become one. In contrast, Midoriya took this decision to protect his friends and family which makes him a hero / vigilante.

Also, his decision to take the burden upon himself falls more in line with his character and makes sensecompared to his randomly becoming a villain. No matter the number of fan art and fan fiction we see about villain Deku, it is still very unnatural for his personality.

Also, the entire point of the series was about becoming the greatest hero, so it would have been hypocritical to see Deku become a villian.

What happens after Deku leaves U.A.?

Deku is super worried about how the hero society is quickly breaking from the inside: massive jailbreaks in 8 different cities; villains on a rampage; dangerous convicts unleashed and hungry for flesh and blood.

And despite possessing black sclerae in his cold eyes while wearing the mask of his tattered hero costume, Deku is trying to save as many civilians and heroes as he can to the point of over-exhaustion.

He also came into contact with the villains of the past like Muscular. But this time around he was able to defeat the villain easily with his arsenal of quirks, which shows the level of progress that Deku has achieved!

Does Deku come back to U.A.?

Bakugo and Class 1-A did not want to leave Deku to be the bait to Shigaraki. They wanted to get him back home, to the place where he belongs. They did not want him to fight alone!

To bring him back home, Class 1-A staged an intervention during the Tartarus Escapees Arc. Deku, however, wasn’t ready to be back and a difficult fight ensued.

After an incredibly challenging fight and his classmates telling him all the ways he inspired them, he finally gave up and broke down. Deku apologized to his friends for his actions. Class 1-A welcomed him back to U.A. but the civilians weren’t ready to let him inside the U.A. barrier.

They fear the worst since Izuku is the hero Shigaraki is after. However, Ochako seems to calm the anxious crowd and they let him in! Finally, Deku gets back home!

What powers does Deku gain after leaving UA?

Deku gained a few more abilities after leaving UA. During his fight with Muscular, he unlocked his ability of Smokescreen, which he inherited from the 6th One For All user, En.

Deku quickly understood the need to conceal his identity from the civilians and used this new technique and used it comfortably. However, he still faltered at one point and emitted excess smoke at one point, which obscured his own vision.

He also unlocked another quirk called Fa Jin, which was the ability of the Third User. During Deku’s Lady Nagant, he finds himself on the edge when her sniper bullets are too fast to dodge.

In this case, Deku used Fa Jin to store energy in his legs for doing a few squats. He then used this energy to defeat Lady Nagant!
