Who is the Strongest Seven Deadly Sin? Is it Meliodas or Escanor?

The Seven Deadly Sins manga ended early this year and finally saw an end to the long battle between the Demon King and the Seven Deadly Sins.

During this time, all the Sins powered up and became unfathomably strong, especially after returning from Purgatory.

I will be ranking the Seven Deadly Sins members from the weakest to the strongest, in my opinion.

Anime watchers beware, SPOILERS ahead.

7. Diane – The Serpent’s Sin of Envy

Diane is the Serpent’s Sin of Envy of the Seven Deadly Sins. She is a member of the Giant Clan, and during the New Holy War arc, her strength was acknowledged by the former King of the Giant Clan, who then declared her as his successor, making her the unofficial “Giant Queen.”

Diane’s Sacred Treasure is the War Hammer Gideon. She uses this weapon in conjunction with her inherent power, Creation.

As a member of the Seven Deadly Sins, Diane possesses incredible physical strength, speed, and an extraordinary connection with nature. After performing the Drole’s dance, her power levels reach an astounding 50,000.

Her feats and strength make her one of the strongest characters in the series, but compared to the rest of the sins, she is still weaker and therefore is placed at the 7th place.

6. Gowther – The Goat’s Sin of Lust

Gowther is the Goat’s Sin of Lust of the Seven Deadly Sins. He was revealed to be a doll, created by the original Gowther, and is a former member of the Ten Commandments.

As a member of the Seven Deadly Sins and doll created by one of the greatest wizards in history, Gowther possesses a great amount of magic power.

His Sacred Treasure is the Twin Bow, Herritt, which he uses in conjunction with his inherent power, Invasion. His primary ability comes in the form of mind manipulation and transformation.

He has great strength and power despite his weak body frame. Due to having a doll body, Gowther has pseudo-immortality that enabled him to survive fatal injuries.

However, Gowther’s body is not entirely invincible to damage, as the right amount can easily harm his body to the point of breaking, as seen in his encounter with Mael.

In accordance with his power and pseudo-immortality, he is the 6th strongest Seven Deadly Sin.

5. Merlin – The Boar’s Sin of Gluttony

Merlin is the Boar’s Sin of Gluttony of the Seven Deadly Sins and is regarded as the greatest mage in Britannia.

Despite not being physically powerful, Merlin’s greatest asset in battle lies in her knowledge and intellect, using strategies to render her opponents helpless without engaging them directly.

The greatest example of this lies in her battle against Chandler and Cusack, where she utilized a thorough strategy to weaken them and prevent any counterattack simultaneously.

This approach was fearsome enough to defeat both high ranking demons in their true forms. Even Ludociel, leader of the Four Archangels, stated that he never wanted to make an enemy of Merlin.

Due to her feats, strength, and intellect, she ranks as the 5th strongest Seven Deadly Sin.

4. King – The Grizzly’s Sin of Sloth

King is the Grizzly’s Sin of Sloth of the Seven Deadly Sins. His real name is Fairy King Harlequin, and he is the protector of the Fairy King’s Forest and the Fairy Realm.

As the current and most powerful Fairy King in all of history, he is extremely powerful.

After going through the trial and his wings finally growing, King’s power increased significantly, allowing him to freely access the Sacred Tree’s real power and his Sacred Treasure.

This allowed him not only to overpower Mael with his Chastiefol but also to use multiple forms simultaneously.

Despite lacking physical strength, King makes up for it with his sacred treasure, Spirit Spear Chastiefol, and his immense level of magic power.

He is the 4th strongest Seven Deadly Sin.

3. Ban – The Fox’s Sin of Greed

Ban is the Fox’s Sin of Greed of the Seven Deadly Sins. He is known for his power, Snatch, and formerly his immortality, which he gained from the Elixir of Life, which he gave up to revive Elaine from death.

After his success in the Purgatory, his body became extraordinarily resilient and his ability evolved.

His physique has evolved so much that even after losing his immortality, he was completely unharmed by the Demon King’s energy storm.

Ban’s power level is expected to be somewhere around 700,000 making him the third strongest Seven Deadly Sin.

2. Escanor – The Lion’s Sin of Pride

Escanor is the Lion’s Sin of Pride of the Seven Deadly Sins and the man known throughout the Kingdom of Liones as “The Strongest Holy Knight”.

Escanor has the ability Sunshine, which makes him immensely powerful during the day but even weaker than an average human at night.

While he is the weakest amongst all holy knights at midnight, starting from dawn, his power level begins to rise steadily from one hour to the next until it peaks at noon.

At noon, when his power is at its peak for one minute, he becomes the manifestation of power itself, and his body dwarfs ordinary people. In this form, he is said to be invincible.

Escanor vs Meliodas

At his peak, according to Merlin, he easily surpasses any of the other Sins.

Due to his fluctuating power levels, Escanor can be either the strongest or the weakest Seven Deadly Sin.

1. Meliodas – The Dragon’s Sin of Wrath

Meliodas is the Dragon’s Sin of Wrath and captain of the Seven Deadly Sins and the strongest member of the Seven Deadly Sins. His Sacred Treasure is the Demon Sword Lostvayne, and his innate power is Full Counter.

He was also the head of the Ten Commandments and the eldest son of the Demon King.

With only a fraction of his power returned, he easily defeated members of the legendary Ten Commandments. His power was so great that it eclipsed even the mighty Four Archangels.

After successfully absorbing all of the Commandments, Meliodas had become the Demon King, therefore increasing his powers to the same godly levels as his father and becoming almost invincible.

However, he sacrificed his power to cancel out the Commandments to prevent his father from ever returning. Despite this, Meliodas was and is the strongest Seven Deadly Sin.

This list is incorrect. The most powerful are Ban and Meliodas. Upon returning from purgatory as well as now having his sacred weapon bans power is increased to 600-700k this puts him on nearly even ground with meliodas. However because meliodas spent a longer time in purgatory most will still give the power to meliodas. Escanor because he is so situational loses his number 2 ranking quite quickly. Until he becomes the embodiment of power even in his day state he would still lose to after purgatory ban and meliodas.

Hey! I get your point regarding Meliodas and Ban’s strength, however, in the fight against the demon king, it was Escanor who defeated him, by even surpassing his “The One” state. In that brief moment, he was stronger than any God (even Meliodas to some extent). But since he paid a heavy price and lost this power, he slipped to second place. While your argument that since Escanor lost his power, he should not be placed second holds true, regardless he was the ‘strongest being’ in that brief moment and deserves at least a second place.
