Who is the strongest character in Rising of the Shield Hero?

Among the many anime releases 2022 has given us, the second season of The Rising of the Shield Hero has been the most celebrated.

The premier of this Isekai fave swept the fans off their feet, but the following 2 episodes might have put a bit of a damper on storyline and plot expectations.

Either way, our favorite characters are still present in the new season, and we also have some mysterious new friends and/or foes, who might just tip over the power scales.

The power dynamics haven’t completely taken a 360-degree turn yet, but there have been some influential changes. This calls for a new list of the top 10 strongest characters in The Rising of the Shield Hero!

This list will be based on the anime, and the light novel, which is its source material. To view my previous list based on the web novel, click here

10. Melty Q. Melromarc

Second daughter of Mirellia, sister of Malty, and current Queen of Melromarc, Melty is blessed with water magic that she can use during combat.

Naturally, she can negate all fire-based attacks, although we have not yet seen her use her skills in hand-to-hand combat.

She can use her water magic along with other magic wielders – for example, in the attack called Typhoon, she uses her power with Filo’s wind magic to create a tornado.

More than offensive attack, though, Melty’s powers – and her personality – are more suited for defense and healing.

9. L’Arc Berg Sickle

Who is the strongest in The Rising of the Shield Hero?
L’Arc Berg Sickle | Source: Fandom

L’Arc is the Scythe Hero and the wielder of the Vassal Scythe. That giant scythe is enough to scare off any opponent just by the way it looks. When he does use it, he can summon energy that can slice any target into two.

He can combine one or more of his own moves with his partner Therese’s spells to create even more impactful attacks.

The Burning Disk is a combination of L’Arc’s Flying Circle skill and Therese’s Crimson Flame spell, which shoots a fiery wheel at the opponent, leaving them charred.

L’Arc specializes in short-range combat and works well in a team. He also has a lot of battle experience and could go toe-to-toe with Naofumi’s team in the beginning.

8. Raphtalia and Filo

Who is the strongest in The Rising of the Shield Hero?
Filo and Raphtalia | Source: Fandom

Raphtalia and Filo are both part of Naofumi’s party, along with Melty. They are both staunchly loyal to our hero, and possess unique abilities that support the Shield Hero.

Raphtalia is Naofumi’s first real companion, and the primary female protagonist of the story. She becomes the Katana Hero after obtaining the Vassal Katana and can use her sword in conjunction with Light and Dark magic.

She also makes a contract with the Demon Dragon Emperor and can cast powerful illusion spells.

After gaining the abilities of the Heavenly Emperor, Raphtalia can use moves like the Five Practices Destiny Thrust for attacks and defenses using the Five Elements Interaction.

Filo is excellent at physical combat – despite her sweet appearance. She is strong and possesses great speed, especially when she transforms into huge bird.

She has a natural affinity towards wind magic and can create speeding balls or blades of wind to knock off her targets.

7. Therese Alexandrite

Therese is L’Arc’s companion and partner in combat. She is unexpectantly powerful, even more so than L’Arc. This is mainly because she can absorb energy from jewels and develop awesome magical abilities.

Although she isn’t a Hero, when she uses 3 or more of her gemstone accessories, she is said to at least possess as much power as the Legendary Heroes.

She can paralyze her target, summon fire and lightning at will, and envelop her opponent in a freezing blizzard.

6. Itsuki, Ren, and Motoyasu

Itsuki Kawasumi, Ren Amaki, and Motoyasu Kitamura are 3 of the 4 Legendary Heroes summoned from their world to protect this realm from the devastating Waves of Calamity.

They must battle the Guardian Beasts and defeat the one behind the merging of the worlds, the enemy of the spirit of the weapons.

Itsuki is the Bow Hero, Ren is the Sword Hero, and Motoyasu is the Spear Hero.

Although Itsuki has quite a diminutive frame, his forte is in firing his legendary bow.

He can cover huge distances with amazing accuracy, hitting his target every single time. He is also a natural esper, and uses his superpowers in conjunction with his offensive attacks.

Ren’s holy sword can slash, shock, burn, and blind his targets.

After Ren unlocks the curse of Greed and Gluttony, he becomes doubly powerful, capable of using abilities like Gold Rebellion and Strong Decline where the target is literally attacked and eaten by the ground below them.

Motoyasu has highly effective offensive abilities because of his spear.

He can impale targets easily, and also render them immobile with moves like Paralyze Spear. With Lust and Envy, he can use powers from the Curse Series like Temptation and Ressentiment.

All 3 characters are strong, but have yet to unlock their full potential.

5. Tyrant Dragon Rex

On #5 we have the infamous Tyrant Dragon Rex, the ancient dragon that was sealed away by the previous group of Legendary Heroes.

Perhaps one of the best enemies on the show, the Dragon was something that even the joined efforts of the previous heroes couldn’t defeat.

It was said to be at least 20 meters in height, and mutated over time because of the Dragon Emperor Core.

The Dragon Rex – a combination of a dragon and a T-Rex, was finally slayed by the Queen Fitoria herself.

4. Glass

Glass’s world differs from Raphtalia’s world. She comes from the race of spirit people and is the Fan Hero. She uses traditional Japanese fans to completely devastate her target.

She can keep up a continuous stream of attacks easily, either sweeping the opponent away with light or wind, or sending a shower of blades upon them.

Her source of power is Soul Power, which positively influences her attacks and defenses.

Glass is said to be as strong as the other Vassals and the 7 Star Heroes.

3. Naofumi

Naofumi is the Shield Hero, one of the 4 Legendary Heroes and the protagonist of the series. He can use a variety of shields to block moves from his enemies, as well as attack them.

He did not start off as the strongest, but his character growth has been incredible. His legendary shield can be used for offensive as well as defensive techniques, and can seal, imprison, and knock off his targets.

In curse mode, Naofumi becomes quite fatal for his companions as well as his enemies. With Iron Maiden he can trap his opponent with deadly spikes. With Blood Sacrifice he can essentially mash his victim under a bear claw.

Naofumi’s list of abilities are only evolving, and if it weren’t for the second season, Naofumi would be at #2.

2. Spirit Tortoise

The Spirit Tortoise recently made its entry into the series. It is the first of the legendary Guardian Beasts, known to be an even greater disaster than the Waves of Calamity.

The Spirit Turtle is literally a walking mountain – and that’s just its base form. In its revived version, it grows more heads, its shell hardens with sharp spikes, and its eyes glow an evil red.

It uses the Way of the Dragon Vein to cast its attacks, and to compensate for its bulky body, can summon swift and vicious Demon Bats.

The Spirit Tortoise is near-immortal and can only be defeated if someone extracts its core.

1. Fitoria

Who is the strongest in The Rising of the Shield Hero?
Fitoria | Source: Fandom

Fitoria, the Queen of the Filolials, is the strongest in The Rising of the Shield Hero. She is the Carriage Hero, and can cast overpowered spells, has survived multiple generations, and can grow tall enough to look the Spirit Tortoise in the eye.

Fitoria has ancient knowledge that gives her an edge: she knows the true nature of the Waves of Calamity, the Legendary Weapons, and how heroes are summoned from other worlds.

She can negate the other Legendary and Vassal Weapons and use unique magic that can instantly take out opponents such as the Tyrant Dragon Rex.

Even then, the true extents of her power are unknown.
