Who is Taejin Jin? Why did Mujin call Mori a tiger’s cub?

The God of High School Webtoon was recently adapted into an anime, and people just can’t get enough of it.

As far as we’ve seen, the original story is wonderfully adapted with a few tweaks here and there. The fight scenes are also beautifully animated, and the power can be felt through the screen!

While we knew that Mori had a grandfather, in episode 2 of God of High School, we finally have more information about him. Who the man exactly is? Let’s start with a quick answer of that question and then we will dig deeper.

1. Who is Taejin Jin?

Jin Taejin is Mori’s adoptive grandfather and the creator and master of Renewal Taekwondo. He is the strongest character in the God of High School series who once defeated The Six strongest people in South Korea.

Taejin was the captain of an elite group of soldiers trained in RE Taekwondo that were sent as spies to North Korea. However, he was the only one who survived after an unfortunate incident.

I. How strong is Jin Taejin?

As already revealed in the anime, all the members of The Six lost miserably to Jin Taejin. From this, it is evident that Taejin is easily one of the strongest characters in the series. After all, the one who brought up Mori definitely can’t be ordinary.

Jin Taejin is the one who created an incredibly strong martial art called Renewal Taekwondo using which he blew apart arenas, mountains, and more with just a single kick. He is so strong that The Six believed him to be a power borrower in contrast to being a true fighter.

Yes, he does not borrow any power and does not have any Charyeok like the Joker you saw in GOH Episode 3 used by Executive Q. Here’s my complete explanation/discussion on borrowed power: What are Charyeok and GP?

He is so powerful that the only reason Nox managed to capture him was that his balance was thrown off after having to sacrifice one of his own arms. Even then, they still incurred countless casualties in the fight against him.

II. What is Renewal Taekwondo?

Renewal Taekwondo is South Korea’s martial art that was developed by martial arts expert Taejin Jin as a counter to the Northern ITF.

After capturing a North Korean agent during the 1960s, the South Korean government tested his abilities through a series of duels. The results were drastic, with the northern agent coming out victorious against 50 of the government’s renowned martial artists.

To counter this martial art, Jin Taejin developed Renewal Taekwondo that was based on WTF Taekwondo. It’s also later revealed that he created new and advanced skills purely for RE, rendering it the perfect match for Northern ITF.

Soon, South Korea had trained an entire army in RE Taekwondo; however, in an infiltration mission to North Korea, they all died, and Taejin was the only survivor. He was the sole user of this martial arts form until 20 years later when he taught Jin Mori RE Taekwondo.

2. Is Jin Taejin Mori’s real grandfather?

Jin Taejin is not Mori’s real grandfather but adoptive. During his mission in North Korea, Taejin came across a monkey-like creature whose power was unfathomably strong.

After an intense fight against it, Taejin finally defeated the creature who proceeded to hand Jin an egg with a baby inside which turned out to be Mori.

3. Why did Mujin call Mori a “tiger’s cub”?

Park Mujin called Mori a “tiger’s cub” because after he saw how calmly and efficiently Mori beat Executive Q in the Special Match, Mujin instantly knew that Mori has the strength, technique, and the instincts that his grandfather possesses.

After having learned the identity of Mori’s grandfather, Jin Taejin, Mujin wanted to test whether Mori was indeed the grandson of the man who defeated The Six.

After Mori ate the Divine Pellet and survived, Mujin called Mori a “tiger’s cub” since he was just waiting to grow and become as powerful as his grandfather.

4. About God of High School

The God of High School or GOH is a South Korean webtoon written by Yongje Park. God of HighSchool was first posted on Naver Webtoon on 8 April 2011; it was one of the first webtoons to receive an English translation at the launch of Line Webtoon app and website in July 2014.

While an island half-disappearing from the face of the earth, a mysterious organization is sending out invitations for a tournament to every skilled fighter in the world. “If you win you can have ANYTHING you want.” They’re recruiting only the best to fight the best and claim the title of The God of high school!
