The Fast Saga has been around for over two decades, spanning ten films and more coming, as well as one spinoff series and one animated show. The fandom has remained loyal to the franchise, watching every new addition diligently, and even the actors have joined in on the fun. However, there is one Fast X actor that hadn’t watched any of the films before he was cast.
Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Alan Ritchson, who joined the film series in the latest 2023 film, confessed to Vin Diesel about never having watched any of the franchise’s productions. He also added that though Diesel was gracious with his reaction, the Jack Reacher star shouldn’t have disclosed this detail to him.
Ritchson did his homework after being cast as Aimes in Fast X, but he’d only seen the first one in college before that. Read his entire statement below:
I didn’t watch any other ones, and I let Vin know. I go, ‘Hey man, I hadn’t really watched any of them. I watched the first one in high school, and now that I got the part, I’ve seen them all, and I just love what you’ve been doing with the last two decades.’ And he was like, ‘I…thank you. I appreciate that.’ He’s spent 20-plus years of his life; this is his baby!
I’ve spent a couple of years working on Reacher. It’s such a fixture in my life; if somebody was like, ‘Thanks for having me on Reacher, man, I haven’t watched any of them,’ I’d be like, ‘You’re the stupidest…why would you say that?!’ And this dude is decades in. I’m an idiot.
Oof, Vin Diesel definitely let the newbie off the hook too easy! If Alan Ritchson had indeed worked on the film without doing his research, he would’ve been in for a healthy surprise. The franchise has long evolved from its early illegal street racing days and has since been involved in high-stakes heists and reality-bending stunts.
Despite his lack of knowledge and foresight about mentioning it to the franchise star, the Smallville actor did a brilliant job with his new character in the Fast Saga. With potentially two more films, Aimes will return, and we can see more of Ritchson’s dedicated work and refreshing performance.
