What Led To Yugo Kuga’s Death? Was He Murdered?

With the manga on hiatus and the ongoing season 2, fans are again left contemplating unanswered questions. One of them being who killed Yugo Kugo? Episode 4 of World Trigger season 2 is out, and the fandom is excited.

Yugo seemed like a cool guy. Like how the fans slowly fell for Yuma, I am sure it would be the same for Yugo.

His death was a major tragedy. Yugo is described as an overpowered character. If Yugo was so strong, then how did he die? Did someone kill him?

Yugo Kuga was not killed by anyone and died of his own accord. He sacrificed himself to revive his son Yuma who was about to die; Yugo used all his powers and trion to make the Black Trigger that saved Yuma’s life.

1. Who Is Yugo Kuga?

Yugo is the character that set the rising action to World Trigger. If it were not for him, Yuma would have never crossed the dimension. Yugo Kuga was Yuma’s father. He was a resident of Mikado City.

He has not made any official appearance where we can identify his facial features yet. We have only seen him from Yuma’s perspective, and from whatever information we have on him, it indicates he was a badass.

Yugo was one of the founders of the Border and former Commander-in-Chief. The Border Organization was formed years before the Gates opened, which destroyed half of the Mikado City.

Since Yuma is currently 15 years old and described as a Neighbour, we can assume that he was born there and not in Mikado City. It suggests that Yugo traveled through dimensions even before 15 years.

The Border worked as a mediator between Earth and Neighbourhood. The organization allied with the Neighbour countries. For unknown reasons, Yugo settled in the other dimension. He was a Trion soldier who assisted in the wars.

Yugo raised little Yuma and left behind his legacy. Yugo taught him how to fight and protect himself.

2. What Happened to Yugo?

The Neighbour or the other dimension was always at war with each other. It needs Trions to fight wars. The reason why they opened the gate was to steal Trions from the citizens of Mikado City.

Yugo has traveled throughout the other dimension. As explained in the first episode, they never stayed in one place.

It does make sense in such a dangerous situation; one might never see tomorrow’s sunrise. Something similar happened to Yugo.

When Yuma was 11, to help Yugo’s friend, they sided with Calvaria in a Civil War between the nation Spinthir and Calvaria.

However, one day, presumably, a Black trigger user assassinated a few of the strongest soldiers. Yugo forbade Yuma from joining the fight since they were dealing with a formidable enemy.

Being the rebellious teen, Yuma didn’t heed Yugo’s warnings and joined the fight.

After Yugo left for the battlefield, Yumo planned to sneak up on their enemy units to annihilate them. His master plan failed when an unidentified person almost killed him.

Yugo couldn’t leave his dying son; by creating a black trigger, he sealed Yuma’s body inside his ring. A fake body made up of Trions substituted his dying body with a new one.

All of this resulted in a Trion body (the one he currently has) for Yuma, but his original body is still sealed inside his trigger.

Yugo’s life force completely drained due to the massive amount of power that was required for sealing. Eventually, he disintegrated into dust and died a tragic death. The war continued, and Yuma fought alongside the Calvarians.

His new body enabled his various abilities and made it sturdy. This explains why even after dashing into a car, he wouldn’t have a single scar.

Yuma pretends to be happy-go-lucky, but he is depressed and traumatized by these occurrences. His reason for coming to Yugo’s homeland was to revive him. Unfortunately, he learns that even the Border is incapable of doing so.

3. About World Trigger

World Trigger, also known in short form as WorTri, is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Daisuke Ashihara. It was initially serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from February 2013 to November 2018 and later transferred to Jump Square in December 2018.
