What Are the Eyes of Jigen? – A New Dojutsu!

Jigen single-handedly overpowered both Naruto and Sasuke in Boruto and is currently under the spotlight. What Akatsuki was to Naruto, Kara is to Boruto, and undoubtedly, Jigen plays an essential role in the latter.

At this point, everything regarding Jigen is being paid attention to, ranging from his past to his connection with Otsutsuki. However, what everyone mainly wants to know is where he gets his monstrous power from. Surely, not everything can be solved with just human experimentation, right?

The secret behind Jigen’s power lies within the entity residing within his body, i.e., Isshiki Otsutsuki. However, despite being an Otsutsuki, he is not blessed with a Byakugan in both eyes, but something even more unique. Like Sharingan and Byakugan in Naruto, Jougan and other unique Kekkei Genkai are being introduced in Boruto.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the eyes of Jigen (Isshiki).

1. What Are the Eyes of Jigen?

Jigen (Isshiki) possesses a Byakugan in his left eye and a unique unnamed right eye that allows him to perform Sukunahikona. Byakugan gives him the ability to see the chakra pathway system, while the right eye allows Jigen to shrink and restore himself or any other inanimate target.

To clarify, Jigen in himself, does not have special eyes or dojutsu. Instead, when we talk about the eyes of Jigen, we are explicitly talking about the eyes of Isshiki. Jigen and Isshiki were burnt to death after facing Kenshin head-on; however, the latter revived into Jigen’s dead body due to the Karma mark it was embedded with.

Coming back to the question at hand, Isshiki is the only Otsutsuki to possess a unique eye other than the known variants of Byakugan, Sharingan, Tenseigan, and Rinnegan. While it may still indeed be a modification of one of them, Isshiki’s right eye is much more dangerous. This dojutsu played a vital role in helping him escape from the verge of death after Kaguya’s betrayal.

The iris and pupil of Isshiki’s right eye are yellow, while there’s a black wheel-like pattern with eight spokes coming out of the center. At this point, we have no idea whether the eye is something Isshiki was born with or something he awakened as neither the anime nor the manga has gone in-depth about the dojutsu beyond its appearance and ability.

2. What Can Jigen’s Right Eye Do?

Jigen (Isshiki)’s right eye can utilize Sukunahikona, a jutsu that allows him to shrink himself, as well as any inanimate object within his sight. The dojutsu also has the ability to summon large black cubes, as well as help Isshiki view the lifeforce of living things, including himself.

With Sukunahikona being the primary ability of his unnamed right eye, Isshiki frequently employs it in combat by shrinking projectile attacks to make them undefendable and restoring them to their original size to injure his opponents critically. However, because the change in size happens inhumanely fast, it is often mistaken for teleportation.

While these abilities are extremely useful, what truly makes Jigen’s right eye so dangerous is its compatibility with Daikokuten. This technique enables Isshiki to store anything shrunk by Sukunahikona into a dimension where time is stagnant. Once stored, Isshiki can summon these objects at full size at any given time.

This combination can prove to be fatal during a fight. Just imagine Isshiki shrinking large black rods only to nonchalantly summon hundreds of them to their original size during a fight. Badass, right?

While Daikokuten and Sukunahikona work well as a surprise element, it also helps Jigen (Isshiki) reduce collateral damage and destabilize a target’s footing. Furthermore, not only can Isshiki shrink an entire object, but also specific parts of it, like he did with the flame.

Ultimately, while Jigen’s strength comes from multiple sources, undoubtedly, Isshiki’s unique right eye plays an integral part in furthering his battle prowess.
