What Are Lancanthropes And Their Classes? – Assassin’s Pride

Lancanthropes are the monsters that forced humans (who didn’t want to die at their hands) into a specially structured settlement. Assassin’s Pride adds an interesting twist to the story when it establishes one of its main characters as a half-Lancanthrope living within the settlement unbeknownst to others.

Kufa Vampir identifies with Melida Angel over the dubious notions surrounding their identities, thus resulting in a beautiful bond. But what are these Lancanthropes within the world? And what are the various classes it has?

1. Quick Answer

Lancanthropes are monsters pervading the outside world (outside of Flandore). The light novel mentions around 30 classes of Lancanthropes, but only a few make their way into the anime. These are Vampire, Ghoul, Arachne, Necromancer, and Pumpkin-Head.

2. What are Lancanthropes?

Lancanthropes are the enemy of human settlements and the very reason for their existence. Lancanthropes are considered monsters, and the worlds outside the domes are overrun with them.

The Lancanthropes are the main originators of mana, and a superior section of the Lancanthropes can even convert people into their kin. Kufa Vampir, a half-Lancanthrope, was able to grant a human, Melida Angel, mana, due to his Lancanthrope side. This mana gives them the ability to fight.

KUFA’s VAMPIRE FORM

Lancanthropes are also known as the ‘curse of the Night.’ It is later revealed that Kufa Vampir and his mother faced immense discrimination at an isolated human settlement. Since his mother had been ‘sullied by a curse of the Night’ – as claimed by them.

3. Different Types of Classes

Despite 30 races of Lancanthropes being known in the Light Novel, the anime has only touched upon 5 of them. The following are the ones listed in the anime –

I. Vampire

Vampires are the highest-ranking Lancanthropes and considered to be quite formidable. They can convert people into their kin via a bite. They have high regeneration abilities and can regenerate lost limbs too.

The Vampires reside within an isolated city of Luxvanilla, which is filled with hatred towards lower ranking Lancanthropes. Due to their high nobility within the hierarchy, Vampires can use both mana and anima. Vampires have effectively shown abilities to command other Lancanthropes.

IS KUFA VAMPIR THE STRONGEST CHARACTER IN ASSASSIN’s PRIDE?

A known Vampire is Kufa Vampir, who is a half-lancanthrope and half-human.

II. Ghoul

These Lancanthropes manipulate bandages. They possess the ability to bandage or seal mana and anima alike. Yet, they’re unable to seal any strong or high caliber opponents.

A known Ghoul is Williams Gin, who is also half-Lancanthrope.

III. Arachne

Arachne is another high-ranking class that can manipulate beings and transforms them into spiders.

One known Arachne is the antagonist of the series – Naqua – who is also a grand lord who rules over the Night World.

IV. Necromancer

The Necromancers can summon the Undeads and command them usually for combat.

V. Pumpkin-Head

Pumpkin-head Lancanthropes are the lowest ranking class shown in the anime. They possess poor strength and are very dim-witted.

Therefore, they have an inherent tendency to be swayed by a person with a strong command. They have a frail will, which is manipulated by stronger Lancanthropes and sometimes, even humans.

4. What is Mana?

Mana is the power granted to a select few noble families. The originators of mana are the Lancanthropes because it is through their blood that humans obtain mana. In settlement of Flandore, it is seen that mana awakens at the age of seven.

5. What are Mana Classes?

Classes are the title or rank assigned to mana-users (humans) based on the classification of various abilities. Every class is associated with a specific skillet and weapon. According to the manga, the classes are arranged in a certain hierarchy.

I. Higher Ranks

The ones in higher ranks possess powers that are unrivaled by other classes. It is usually found in the hands of members of the royal or noble families as the high potency and volume of mana is hereditary.

These people rose to power due to their exceptional mana capacities and capabilities. It is with certainty one can claim that those in higher ranks have more ‘potential’ than other classes. The Higher Ranks include Magic Knight, Dragon Knight, and Paladin.

II. Lower Ranks

These are usually held by those of lower social status. But there are also instances of high-level users of Lower Ranks coming from noble families. The listed 8 classes within Lower Ranks are Jester/ Clown, Mage, Samurai, Warrior, Priest, Witch, Gunner, Swordsman.

Note: In the anime, the higher ranks are Paladin, Dragoon (Dragon Knight), and Diablos (Magic Knight). The lower ranks included Fencer (Swordsman), Gladiator (Warrior), Samurai, Maiden (Dancer), Gunner, Wizard (Mage), Cleric(Priest) and Joker (Jester). The anime has not divulged much information into what classes are and the skill set associated with it.

6. The Unpassable Wall

This is not a ranking but a concept understood by the people within the world. It is a concept representative of the power divide between the higher ranks and the lower ranks. Even if a higher rank and lower rank person possesses the same skill set and experience level, there is a differentiation in their maximum potentials. This is the reason behind the defeat of Lower Ranks at the hands of the Higher Ranks indubitably.

7. About Assassin’s Pride

Humanity lives within a settlement called Flandore sheltered from Lancanthropes outside their world. The nobility in Flandore possesses mana that they use to defend themselves against the Lancanthropes.

A young noble girl, Melida Angel, comes under fire for not possessing mana – owing to a noble father and commoner mother as her parentage. Melida’s grandfather, Lord Mordrew, hires a secret assassin, Kufa Vampir, as her private tutor to investigate her true parentage. In the likelihood of her being a complete commoner, he must kill her.
