Warner Bros Chooses to Make the Sequel for The Joker

Warner Bros. took a massive risk with Todd Philips’ Joker and the risk certainly paid off. Joker is now the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, outdoing Deadpool by a significant margin.

Initially, WB Studio was not a hundred per cent sure about rebooting Joker and giving him a new origin story that was not true to the comics. The events took a turn, and Joker received immense praise from the critics and audience. Director Todd Philips and Joaquin Phoenix proved everyone wrong in a dramatic way.

Although the movie was initially intended to be a one-off, things have understandably, changed. The tremendous success of the film has finally persuaded Warner Bros to work on a sequel.

The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed this, saying that a sequel is indeed in development and that both Phillips and co-writer Scott Silver will return alongside Phoenix. Details beyond that are scarce at the moment, but obviously, this is terrific news.

Rumours are that the second movie will be set many years after the events of the original film. It will introduce more DC villains, especially related to Batman and Arthur’s Fleck rise as the Clown Prince of Crime.

After finding much love from audiences, the movie is also now being positioned for a huge awards season push including the Oscars. As the highest-grossing R-rated movie ever, not to mention the most profitable comic book film too, it comes as no surprise that Joker has officially been granted a sequel.
