Fans have been waiting to know the whole story behind it ever since. Many of us may not have seen the film yet, but we have a trailer that can make you emotional in under 2 minutes.

Netflix released an English subtitled trailer for Violet Evergarden: The Movie for the film’s debut on the streaming platform on October 13, 2021.

The trailer starts with a girl retelling some of Violet’s most remarkable works. These included the song lyrics she wrote for the opera singer in the anime’s OVA, a play’s script for a father who lost his daughter, and the love letter for a princess and her fiance.

The narrator at the beginning of the trailer is Anne Magnolia’s granddaughter, Daisy. Anne is the kid whose mother hired Violet to write 50 letters addressed to Anne for her future birthdays.

Anne’s mother was on her deathbed and wanted to leave something behind for her to guide her.

It then shows Violet giving her introduction and curtsy she picked up after she became an Auto Memory Doll. Her co-workers Cattleya and Claudia discuss how Violet still has sincere feelings for the Major, which will one day ruin her.

Raised in the army as a weapon, Violet never learned to process or understand feelings. After working as a Doll and writing letters for many people, she began to realize that conveying your true feelings to your loved ones is essential.

The trailer flashes a text saying, ‘A last letter to be sent to her beloved,’ foreshadowing the end of Violet Evergarden as an Auto Memory Doll. The movie is supposed to wind up all that build-up, and we are not ready for it.

The film reveals that Major Gilbert faked his death to provide Violet with the life of an ordinary girl. So when she finally found him, Gilbert turned her away to let her live a life she couldn’t.

After witnessing people in their most vulnerable moments, Violet gained a perception of human emotions. She understood the Major’s feelings saying that was enough for her, and got ready to move on like he wanted her to.

I’m honestly conflicted between an ending where Violet moves on and one where she is reunited with Gilbert. In my opinion, the latter would be very anticlimactic if not played correctly.

But if Violet gets closure and moves on, do you think Gilbert will chase after her and convey his true feelings to her? Or will he stay back and let her go?
