Vinland Saga serializes in the Monthly Afternoon, a magazine published by Kondasha, which releases on the 24th-25th of every month.

The March issue of the magazine surprisingly did not contain a new Vinland Saga chapter. This hiatus took the fandom by surprise as it was odd that no information was given beforehand, or even after the release of the magazine.

The state of panic was developed because of the ongoing pandemic. It came to rest when the author revealed he just had “common cold.”

However, chapter 171 came back in April’s issue, and we saw Vinland Saga 172 & 173 on time as well. Let’s talk about chapter 174 then!

Vinland Saga manga will showcase an interesting turn of events in chapter 174. Chapter 173 ended with Halfdan offering Thorfinn a chance to become the former’s successor and inherit his estate.

Thorfinn understands this is a trap and how hard it is for him to decline at this point which makes him accept how good of a negotiatior and a business man Halfdan is.

The situation tense up even more when Halfdan’s son, Sigurd, returns home with his wife and child. Yes, Halfdan is a grandfather now!

The Halfdan changes his mind as soon as he holds his grandson in his arms and declares him to be the one to inherit Halfdan’s property.

2. Chapter 174 Release Date

Chapter 174 of the Vinland Saga manga will be released on Monday, July 25, 2020. Vinland Saga 174 will be titled “Sailing West Part 8.”

In the next chapter, we will likely see a conflict of opinions between Thorfinn and Halfdan & how the former will refuse Halfdan on his offer without breaking their deal.

3. Is Vinland Saga chapter 174 on a break?

Well, I hope not! Vinland Saga 1manga is not on a break and is set to release as per its monthly schedule of 25th day every month. Chapter 174 will be out in July’s issue.

4. Chapter 174 Speculations/Predictions

Vinland Saga’s last panel of every chapter contains a preview of some sort that predicts the next one. This time it said, “PRE-DEPARTURE TROUBLES BEGIN.“

While Thorfinn just settled issues between the movers and settlers of Vinland Saga, his next problem is Halfan himself. The latter offers Thorfinn to become his son and inherit his island. It will be interesting to see how Thorfinn diplomatically talks his way out of this one.

The next chapter will continue to be a testament for Thorfinn’s new way of life and stay away from the usual gory atmosphere of the Vinland Saga.

6. Chapter 173 Recap

Chapter 173 starts with Thorfinn visiting Halfdan and riding a stallion. He pays Halfdan in silver for 2 stallions and some mares to be sent to Vinland saga ship.

After the trade, he asks Halfdan for some advice on the Eyvar issue. They discuss the intricacies of a well-balanced constituency – the need of law, an army to implement it, a king to direct it, and a council to keep King’s integrity.

Thorfin, however, takes entirely different learning from Halfdan and hopes to pursue peace throw the ‘laws of Commerce‘ by trade between the Vinland saga residents and settlers.

The chapter ends with Halfdan proposing Thorfinn to become his son and inherit his island.

Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. The series is published under Kodansha in its monthly manga magazine – Monthly Afternoon – aimed at young adult men. It currently has 22 volumes in tankōbon format.

Vinland Saga is set within Viking times, where a young Thorfinn’s life goes astray when his father Thors – a well known retired warrior – is killed while on a journey.

Thorfinn then finds himself under the jurisdiction of his enemy – his father’s killer – and hopes to seek revenge on him when he grows stronger. The anime is loosely based on the expedition of Thorfinn Karlsefni in his search for Vinland.
