Crunchyroll is pulling all the stops to create the Tower of God’s anime. Still, it is facing some challenges in converting the Webtoon series into an anime.

This is Crunchyroll’s first major attempt to produce a Webtoon. This places the Crunchyroll Original in a very difficult position compared to any other anime adaptations as it is the first one of its kind.

The director of the anime series, Takashi Sano, addressed these in an interview with Cayla Coats.

The fact that the Webtoon has such a massive fan base makes it quite difficult as the staff needs to take extreme care so that they don’t lose the story or the feel of the original, which the fans are so fond of. He knew that the fans just wanted to see their favorite comic come alive rather than watch something original, which was just based on the comic.

He also stated how he found the comic to be very deeply rooted in Korea’s social structure, so he felt the need to make it a little more accessible to the general anime audience.

Surprisingly though, he revealed that webtoons are not more challenging to adapt than other mediums since there are very fewer restraints.

He continued by saying that the webcomic originated in Korea and is being adapted in Japan guaranteed a large audience for the anime. Sano ended the interview by urging the fans to read the original comic and watch the anime for a better and fuller experience.
