One really wonders how Koyoharu Gotoge managed to incorporate a wide range of characters – some adorably badass and some downright gruesome – in Demon Slayer.
While these characters encompass the story itself, many of them provide an awe factor to the manga with their amazing set of fighting skills – be it demons or demon slayers.
We’ve listed a few of the most powerful characters in the manga that blessed this adventure fantasy story.
Kyojuro was the Flame Hashira. Kyojuro possessed an insane level of hand and arm strength and was able to carry himself at blistering speed.
He practiced all forms of Breath of Flames and delivered a devastating end to his opponents. Although we may never be able to see his true potential due to his tragic fight against Akaza.
Akaza, himself, noticed his potential and offered to turn him into a demon to surpass his limitations – an offer that many don’t receive. It was implied that Kyojuro was close to accessing the Transparent World before any of his counterparts.
Giyu is the first Hashira that Tanjiro encounters. He practices the Breath of Water.
He is a skilled swordsman who is able to effortlessly defeat powerful demons – as seen by his ability to kill Rui and Spider Demon Father without batting an eye.
With great innovation, Giyu creates the 11th form of the Breath of Water. His battle with Akaza awakens his Demon Slayer Mark that enhances his skills remarkably.
Like Kyojuro, Akaza views him as a worthy opponent and offers to turn him into a demon. Giyu is undoubtedly the best Water user in the last few decades.
Sanemi is a Hashira that practices the Wind Breathing style. His mastery over swordsmanship impressed Kokushibo who possessed 100 years’ worth of experience.
Interestingly, Sanemi possesses a rare intoxicating type of blood that causes demons with calibre, such as Kokushibo, to lose focus. Saneku awakens his Demon Slayer Mark during his battle against Kokushibo that further enhances his physical strength and endurance incredibly.
Despite being unable to land a significant blow to Kokushibo without assistance, Sanemi puts up a decent fight against the Upper Moon 1. Much like the others, Sanemi briefly accessed the Crimson Red Nichirin Blade.
Gyomei Himejima was the Stone Hashira of the Corps. Tanjiro claims him to be the strongest demon slayer. Even Kokushibo claims he’s never battled anyone of Gyomei’s caliber in the last 300 years.
Gyomei possessed an inhuman level of strength that peaked through the Total Concentration technique.
Although he was able to awaken the Demon Slayer Mark and access the Transparent World, Gyomei put up a brief but intense fight against Kokushibo without the mark.
Despite his heavy build, Gyomei is able to react quickly and exercise outstanding reflexes against his opponents with his enhanced sense of hearing.
Akaza was the Upper Rank 3 amongst the Twelve Kizuki. Akaza was an incredibly dangerous opponent with a tremendous amount of strength. He held the power to kill Kyojuro Rengoku.
Akaza was able to overwhelm Giyu and Tanjiro who used Hinokami Kagura and their Demon Slayer Marks. If his tenacity was stronger, it is likely Akaza could have killed them.
Akaza possessed great physical strength, speed and endurance. He had great mastery over the Soryu style martial arts that made him an excellent hand-to-hand combatant.
He could sense bloodlust and send shock wave-like attacks through his Blood Demon Art.
Doma held the Upper Rank 2 position in the Twelve Kizuki. Doma was an extremely powerful demon, stated to be the third strongest demon in the story.
Doma’s primary offense and defense relies on two Gunsen War Fans that deliver destructive attacks and deflect attacks from opponents. It is said he killed Kanae Kocho and he also ended up killing Shinobu despite putting little effort.
Doma’s immense durability and high pain tolerance made him quite formidable. His swift regenerative and absorption abilities helped him persevere in battle. With his Blood Demon Art, Doma produced ice from his flesh and blood.
Kokushibo held the highest rank in the Twelve Kizuki. An excellent swordsman with knowledge of combat and experience of over 300 years, Kokushibo made an intimidating opponent.
With great perception, he deciphered the techniques of two Hashiras and overwhelmed them in battle. A former Breathing style user, Kokushibo’s tremendous levels of strength and reflexes were further enhanced by his demon physiology.
Kokushibo also holds access to the Demon Slayer Mark and the Transparent World, evidently enjoying the best of both worlds.
He could even take on combo attacks of three Hashiras, the likes of Gyomei, Sanemi, Muichiro along with Genya.
Tanjiro Kamado is the main protagonist and the strongest demon slayer of his time. Tanjiro shows the most dynamic transformation throughout the series.
Naturally, Tanjiro possesses immense strength, endurance along with great reflexes and an enhanced sense of smell.
During Giyu’s fight with Akaza, Tanjiro was able to withstand his powerful techniques and even one up Akaza with his speed, ultimately saving Giyu.
During his battle with Muzan, Tanjiro finally perfects the Sun Breathing technique and accesses the 13th form which helps prolong his peak abilities that include the Selfless State, the Transparent World, and the Crimson Blade.
Muzan was the most powerful demon and the progenitor of his kind. Being the strongest demon in existence, Muzan displayed incredible feats in battle such as holding his own against five Hashiras and Tanjiro simultaneously.
Muzan possessed amazing survival skills, being able to live for over 10,000 years despite being hunted by the Demon Slayer Corps for centuries.
Muzan possessed unique anatomy, a factor that played a huge role in his survival. He held the most powerful regenerative ability and great absorption skills.
Muzan held unique powers such as shapeshifting, the ability to use curses, possession, and more.
Yoriichi Tsugikuni is the strongest character in Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, known as ‘the strongest demon Slayer of all time.’ He is the creator of the first and the most powerful breathing style, Breath of the Sun.
His name strikes fear in Muzan. Yoriichi possessed the Demon Slayer Mark and Transparent World upon birth.
He was viewed as a miraculous prodigy that could defeat multiple demons at a young age due to his immense speed and strength that floored Kokushibo and Muzan.
Yoriichi managed to bring Muzan on the verge of death and displayed great endurance – being able to live over 80 despite the effects of the Demon Slayer Mark.
Numbering the characters can be a little restricting but it helps provide a clearer hierarchy of the powerful characters present in the story.
Without much ado, we’d also like to list a few other characters that are powerful enough to deserve a mention in this article despite not making it in the top 10.
These characters are Muichiro Tokito, Iguro Obanai and Tanjuro Kamado.Originally Written By Epic Dope
